I've been noticing a trend of the "helpful votes" number to my reviews dropping at a precipitous rate. About a week ago, it was at approximately 780. Today it's at 706 and still dropping every day...multiple times a day. Other than items that I've reviewed that are no longer sold on Amazon (which logically would reduce helpful votes I've received if there were helpful votes given), are there any other reasons this number would keep dropping other than people going back and removing helpful votes they've submitted? This seems like an activity that would be somewhat time intensive.
I haven't made anyone angry that I know of in the Amazon community. Just wondering if other avid reviewers in the Amazon community have experienced this before?
Why does it matter? Who really cares? (By the way, this forum is a customer-to-customer forum for people to help with Amazon digital devices and digital content, not for general discussions about Amazon.)

I'm just simply curious if there's something wonky with Amazon's database or something. Just seemed odd to me that's all. 100+ helpful votes just vanished over the course of a few days. Not huge deal...just thought I'd ask to see if others experience it as well.
Drummer, I ran into the same problem too. I found that their selection of which review/s they would take off the reviewer’s profile page — without notice to the writer — on whichever discontinued product they homed in on was strangely arbitrary. They didn’t remove my reviews on discontinued products where there were maybe two or three helpful votes; they went after one of my most helpful reviews of a discontinued product, one which I believe had brought in more than 70 helpful votes. I was told in an email, after questioning it, that they had removed my review and its vote count because, in my particular case, the manufacturer of the product had sold its business to another which then went bankrupt, I believe it was, and thus the product would never be available again. My take on this is that reviewers who invest significant time on their reviews should keep all of them and their helpful-vote count in place because Amazon still has notes posted on other of my reviews, noting that said products are no longer available. Why, then, could they not have just done the same with my greater helpful review? Why take down an obviously interesting or helpful piece of writing?
What they did with my review and its statistics [which had my ranking up into the low 15,000’s of reviewers] made me lose complete interest in writing reviews on some of the many products I buy from Amazon. Anything I write and any record of how helpful it may have been can be deleted by Amazon at any time, at their complete discretion, without feeling any responsibility toward me to even warrant, in their opinion, an email to me that my review and its helpful votes were being taken from me.
I’ve kind of started closing down my profile page — a little at a time, beginning with my profile picture and a background shot of a gallery in which I’d held a month-long exhibition of new works. Next, I have begun to slowly delete some of my reviews which had received no interest whatsoever; I view it as a sort of recovery from the loss of my 70+ helpful votes on that one deletion alone.
I’m very sorry that you lost as much as you did. Hopefully, policies and procedures over this topic will change in time. Also, I hope that you can maintain your interest in continuing writing reviews, even though I could not.
NOTE: I do NOT speak for or represent Amazon in any fashion. This is a customer to customer forum.

Points well-made. I understand. It has mattered because I’m homebound now after an injury and, with no children, I have no family to care about me. You are correct; I have been socially inappropriate and will shut up with my inane attempts to fill my life, somehow, with people and to gain some sense of accomplishment and, yes, with a negative proneness to feel too deeply and of writing too much, just as I am now. Excuse me for my intrusion into the forum. I would delete my idiotic post, if I could, but I couldn’t find a way. I’m very embarrassed by my stupidity. Thank you for the jerk back into reality which is total insignificance . Best wishes to you all.
