Come on AMAZON Engineers - I just called in a ticket - this has been an ongoing request for months on this thread.... Are you even monitoring this?
This is a simple fix.... Allow us to manually tag a photo correctly when your software automatically tags one incorrectly. I have hundreds of photos tagged incorrectly.
I should be able to click on the photo and indicate who this is. What is so hard about it? Your auto facial recognition is NOT PERFECT. Nothing is. We need to be able to manually correct when people look similar based on your software application. We love the feature and it really helps when we can filter by person. It becomes frustrating when that person is in someone else's profile and we can't find them.
My expectation is for someone from the engineering department to respond and provide us an ETA or if this is even on the radar. In addition, it would show all on this thread that you do monitor these threads and desire to provide an excellent customer experience.
Oh by the way.... I am a PRIME account holder and have never been offered the ability to manually tag like what was suggested in earlier posts. So I have to believe that actually has not happened.
Quote further up-thread from Kristen C Amazon Staff, 18 Jan 18 “I wanted to slide in here and confirm this is not a rumor! We don't have an exact date, but January 2018 will see an update starting to roll out to current Prime Photos customers that will allow customers to change, remove, add and edit tags through their desktop, Android, Fire Tablet and iOS apps.”
BUT I have just this minute received this email from Amazon in response to my complaint via Feedback. ”I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you had with Image recognition feature. I'd like to inform that, currently there is no option to move wrongly identified photos. I apologize for the inconvenience in this regard. In this case, I've forwarded your message to our Amazon Cloud Drive team for consideration as we make further improvements. This is exactly what we are looking from our customers to help with the evolution of Amazon, as we are continuously making improvements to your experience based on the feedback we receive. I'm sure that they'll carefully look into this and take necessary actions in the nearest future and I'd like to thank you for bringing this into our notice. I'm glad that you have contacted us regarding the areas of improvement and I appreciate your loyalty towards Amazon.co.uk.”
Sooooo: which is it? Is the issue in the process of being resolved or not?
This update is still coming. But as most of you have already reported, it is not yet available to all customers. I don't have the feature yet myself on my personal account. But the update is being rolled out and hopefully we will all be able to use this feature soon! If an exact date becomes available, I will post here. Until then, we appreciate everyone's patience.
I am an Amazon Prime member and a new Amazon Photos member, and would like to manually tag all of the photos that I put on Amazon Photos, because I want complete control over how things are categorized and I want to avoid problems that auto recognition can present. I don’t see a manual tagging capability currently. When will this capability be added?
Does anyone from Amazon ever respond or even read?
Obviously this service is not ready for prime time.
I'm more frustrated than excited that the amazon facial recognition feature does not work well and does not allow for fixing its mistakes.
Whoever figures out and delivers on this "photo handling" will own the market.
I've been working on this myself in recent years. I have a lot of good ideas. Happy to share with amazon engineers - if willing to listen. Here's a few ideas, for a sampling:
Make the solution more game-like than app like.
Don't try to do everything at one time. Create small steps and take each user thru small time steps. Think 5-minute work projects with a clear objective and fast result.
Allow the user to learn slowly how to do each mini project.
Help users produce tangible output products they can quickly share with others. E.g.:
12 images that best represent my (anyone I specify) life story last year by month.
or my (anyone) life so far with a single image for each year.
or my dad's (anyone) life, for his memorial, 1 best image for each year.
or my (anyone) changing face - over my lifetime
me and my sig other (only us two) photos - one per year
We need the tools to be able to sort thru all our photos this way
The game can ping us from time to time to do little mini projects to help work on missing data:
Who's in this photo?
Date of this photo?
Place of this photo?
Which of these two photos do you like the best? (working toward best representative photo for stories)
Simple little tasks that the user can feel good about completing in a few seconds - whenever they have a few seconds to kill and want to do something useful vs. just for entertainment value.
This solution amazon has created has too many holes in it. Steps take way too long. Most people have thousands of images to upload. Don't try to do all at once where apps appear to not respond. I'm totally confused about the desktop app right now. It's no longer responding. I don't know if it's locked up or still busy working on some multi-hour process with the thousands of photos it automatically grabbed.
Again, I'd love to help amazon engineering build a better solution for us all.
There's hundreds of great little things we all would love to have to create what we really want with all these otherwise mostly useless photos we hardly ever interact with again. The trick is to keep it simple.
Let's hope someone is watching and listening over there in the engineering office!
Really looking for ways to change and remove tags. I am Asian, and so are many of my family and friends. The current tagging logic is mixing up many of them and grouping different people together. This is extremely frustrating. It would be great if we can help train the algorithm by tagging the right people so that the program can tell different people apart.
Whats the word? Post #46 is all I can find that this is even happening. Cant find any news on this "update" anywhere except here (#46). Are there any links/source or anything official from Amazon such as a statement?
I shouldn't have to come to the same post daily to find news/updates on such a thing as this, if there is indeed an update coming.
Certainly agree that the feature to correct tags is desperately needed. It has tagged many of my photos that no people/faces in them as being my wife! Honestly she doesn’t look like the Eiffel Tower, or the outside of a building, no matter what Prime Photos thinks!
i am very unhappy how pictures of random things (plants, cars ect...) got grouped in with pics of family, people who look nothing alike or of the opposite sex got placed with the wrong people, also my daughters got grouped wrong. It pisses me off that it not fixable! It would be fine if i was able to fix it but its not, very very upset. I expected better out of amazon. If your gonna have this type of option it should have an edit option!
