I have two echo dots set up to control multiple lights and cameras. After everything was set up and working great I decided I wanted to add a third echo Dot. I set it up according to the instructions and it's showing on my Alexa app but when I talk to it, it doesn't recognize any of my smart home devices or skills. How do I get this new Dot to be able to control everything like my other two?
It says it doesn't recognize the device. For example I ask Alexa to arm my Blink home system and she says she doesn't recognize a device called blink home system. Or I ask "turn on master bedroom" which on the other dots will turn on all the lights in the master bedroom but on the new one she'll say "do you mean smart plug?" And even if I say yes it doesn't do anything because none of my devices are called smart plug
The Echo devices support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Most Smart Devices only support 2.4 GHz. When you setup your Echo through the Smart Phone app it usually connects new devices to the same WiFi band your phone is connected to. I usually have my phone connected to 5 GHz at home, but need to switch it to 2.4 GHz before I setup new smart devices or Echo's. Even though the Echo's support both bands, it is important that they are all connected to the same band. I would remove it from your account and go through the setup again.
I also read that if devices are connected though a skill it didn't matter if they're on same WiFi network or band. I did notice today that it notified me when my Ring doorbell was pressed, so that's a step in the right direction.
