This is been a dizzying headache for me lately. I have six Gen 3 Echo Dots, and a Google Home. They control 14 smart plugs, 3 smart switches, and 3 smart bulbs. All smart things always work through their respective manufacturers app (Wemo & Kasa) (except the amazon proprietary smart plugs which I wish I never bought that only work with Alexa). Unfortunately my smart plugs are constantly and seemingly randomly loosing communication with Amazon's Alexa dots and the Alexa app. I'll lose connection to one smart plug with the Dots & Alexa App, but my Google Home and that plugs manufactures app (Wemo app for example) can continue to control the smart plug with no issues. There is always an issue with one or more plugs not working with Amazon's Alexa devices! I've power cycled them, removed them from the Alexa app and reinstalled them, updated all their firmware, and I still have the problem. It's making me wish I went pure Google instead. What's the dealeeo? Are Amazon's servers just crappy? Is their app broken? Is there something on my end I'm missing?

Hey WW_Dagger, I am sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with the devices not connecting to Alexa. Please contact Amazon customer service directly for additional assistance, as you have already tried the recommended troubleshooting for this issue.
Best of luck, and welcome to the forums.

Hello Forum people, My name is Zach and I am a Moderator for Amazon. I enjoy Film Making, Graphic Design and Web Design in my free time (Different than Kindle Freetime of course). I am also an avid adventurer, looking forward to my next outing!
I made a change to my IP subnet recently. I reenabled all my wemo wall switches and insight plugs to the new subnet.
I have them all working with the Belkin Wemo app on my Amazon Fire 8.
I removed all traces of them from my Alexa app and rediscovered them. When I try to turn them on from the Alexa app on my Amazon fire it comes back device unresponsive although it discovered them. When a ask my Alexa echo dot to turn on the device it too says it's unresponsive.
This all worked fine for a year before I changed the ip addressing.
My mind is still as sharp-as-a-tack Trouble is , it is no longer the pointy end !
Sadly , my mind reading abilities have seriously diminished to the point I can barely read a mind 5 feet away and then only have a 10% rate with the women in my life and only 1% with my cat
I'm amazed at the number of people who expect a $20-$200 Alexa Device to operate like a device from the year 3000 !!

It will be very satisfying when a $20-$200 Alexa Device will operate like a device from the year 3000 !!
One of my WEMO plugs is not discoverable by Alexa. All the other devices (mostly WEMO, one is KASA) all work from Alexa except this one plug device that Alexa is not discovering. I have to make sure I have my phone to turn this one device on and off from the WEMO ap. Recently, I kept getting messages that WEMO needed to update. I updated and still I would get messages that the update was needed. I 'updated' a few times. Any advise?
Same here. Smart plug still works thru Wemo app. Alexa app says it’s unresponsive. I’ve tried adding and deleting. UnInstalling and reinstalling apps. Power cycling, restoring to factory setting and updating firmware. very frustrating. Do you the same issues exist with google home assistant?
This just started happening to me. Exact same thing. Wemo app works, devices get discovered. Even voice works per device. However the Alexa app says “device is unresponsive” for my Wemo devices (fine for insteons) and if i add any Wemo a to an Alexa group i get a response “I’m not sure what’s wrong”.
Anyone else using Eero that’s having this issue? So frustrating since my family has grown used to saying things like “turn off the downstairs lights” and now nothing works that has wemo included.
This remains an issue as of 11/26/19. I have 3 WeMo smart plugs controlling a desk lamp, reading lamp and nightstand lamp. All 3 can be successfully controlled via the WeMo app. Using Alexa or viewing the devices directly in the Alexa app on my iPhone shows the correct status of the device. Attempting to control via the app shows a "Server is unresponsive" error on each device.
As a side note, Siri and Google/Nest Home are able to control the devices with no issue, so the problem is definitely between how Alexa and WeMo servers are communicating.
This just started happening to mine. They are all discovered in the Wemo app and also in Alexa app. When I ask the dot/Alexa to turn on a specific light it will. When I try to turn it on from the app it says server unresponsive. If I ask for/Alexa to turn on a group that has a Wemo in it it says I’m not quite sure what went wrong. Once the Wemo device is removed from that same group everything works perfect.
I’ve been using Alexa and Wemo together for about 2-3 years now and no issues until this last week.
Also Siri and Google/Nest home is working just fine telling grouped items to turn on or off, but i only have one google home unit and 8 Alexa's. Might have to switch over to google home and sell the Alexa's...
Amazing support tells me they believe it’s due to recent iOS update and they are working on a fix in their next update. I don’t believe it. I think it may have something to do with the fairly recently upgraded eero app.
My lights work with the Geeni app, and they worked fine from last year until a couple of months ago. I can still operate thru the Geeni app, but not thru Alexa voice command. I have reported this issue to Amazon and they wanted me to call customer service. However, I had an extremely unsatisfactory experience with them last year, and I really don’t want to risk getting that angry again. I just want someone to tell me how to get the connection back, I can’t believe it’s that difficult. It worked then suddenly it stopped.
Just started happening to me also. Have a Yeelight bulb that keeps going unresponsive thru Amazon app/Alexa. I'm using a Galaxy 9 for Alexa app and 3rd gen dot. Happened to a light strip I recently bought too but unplugged that for 10 minutes and then it became responsive again. Did not work for Yeelight bulb though. I have 8 other devices that this has not happened to. Also have had the yeelight bulb for awhile now, over a year and just recently started doing this.
Edit: Just like others, the devices work fine with their own app, just doesn't work with Alexa
This also started for me the week of Thanksgiving. I have over 20 wemo plugs as well as 4 eero’s. Works fine with Apple HomeKit and wemo app but not Alexa.
problem is we use wemo for 4 kids’ rooms (lamps and noisemakers) and they only use Alexa (not Siri) so everyone is frustrated.
seems like this is related to eero, which is ironic since these have worked fine for nearly 2 yrs together, until amazon bought eero.
Maybe it is eero, but if so, why would the WeMo app work on my phone while connected to my eero but it won’t work on the Alexa app? Seems like a communication problem between the Alexa app and WeMo. I can control the devices with my voice and an Echo device (all connected to my eero system), but cannot control using the Alexa app. But the app will correctly show whether the device is on/off and updates in real time if I turn it on/off using my voice. None of the routines or groups set up in the Alexa app with a WeMo device will work and I cannot turn the plugs/switches on/off using only the Alexa app (I get a “server is unresponsive” message that shows up for about 5 seconds then goes away). It’s very frustrating. These devices worked great for about two years with no issues. Then WeMo did a firmware update and it hasn’t worked since.
As stated by jtoms and others above, I feel this is an Amazon Alexa problem. Installed an Eteckcity switch months ago and stopped because I decided to move it. Just getting around to this last week, I installed the switch, connected to the VeSync app and lights are turning on and off. I noticed the Device information still existed in the Alexa iPhone App from months ago, so I Enabled it. Unfortunately, I'm seeing a problem similar to described in this forum. Alexa App says the "Server is unresponsive" and will not activate the switch. When I disable the devise and delete it, the devise reappears (disabled) in my list and was not deleted. The app also notifies me that a new devise (the switch) has been found, but it takes me to the same (old and still not deleted) devise. I tried this process including deleting from the VeSync App, but the Alexa App continues to hold on to it. I also tried deleting from the alexa.amazon.com site, yet the devise remains.

This does not make any sense.
I really don't like WEMO anymore as well.

The WeMo and Alexa apps were updated yesterday. Not sure if that fixes the problem, but it would be worthwhile to update if you haven't already.

Anything I can do in eero settings?
