I receive my two Amazon smart plugs and installed them according to the instruction. I can turn on/off lights using the Alex app by pressing the button in the app. But Alex can't turn the plugs on/off by using the voice commands. Alexa is understanding the commands correct, she even repeats the device name correct, but she only replys "Sorry, but I didn't find a device named first plug". Even if I change the device names she is still not able to find it. But the Alex app finds it without problem and I can control them manually in the app. What am I doing wrong?
Ok, I found out why it doesn't work. I set it up with my account and the echos were set to my wife's amazon account. Well, that is really stupid. We switch all the time between accounts for several reasons. And all our other smart home devices (echobees and Hue lights) can always be voice controlled, no matter what account is set on the Echos. Why is this not possible with the Amazon smart plugs. We first have to make sure we are on the correct account and only then it is possible to turn the plug on or off. This is really inconvenient. Even the Wemo plugs can be voice controlled from both accounts. What is the point of family sharing if I can't even control the amazon smart plug from both accounts??
I have a similar issue. I go two echos (Dot) but they are both set to my account. One of the echos can control a new smart plug with voice but the second can't. Can't figure it out so if you did other changes, please let me know.
