I’m getting the 3:16:0:1 error too. This plug was working fine for the last couple weeks until this morning and I have another plug that’s still working on the same network. I tried removing the faulty plug from the Alexa app and re-adding it but get the provisioning error each time now. I’ve reset the plug by holding the button for 12 seconds, tried adding it through the barcode and through the no-barcode discovery method and both result in error. Starting to believe it’s faulty and needs to be returned for a replacement.
I am getting the same provisioning error (3:16:0:1) that many people here is having. I have done all suggested tip , like resetting the smart-plug, re-installing Alexa App, setting the phone to 24 hour format. I order the Alexa smart-plug and the smart-plug from WEMO.. it took me 3 mins to setup the WEMO ...and work with Google Home too ... Very disappointed with Amazon Smart-plug
I was getting this "provisioning error", but found that it worked correctly if I tethered the plug with my phone. Turned out to be the pi-hole on my home network was dropping DNS requests to some amazon.com URLs.
I have 4 Amazon Smart Plugs. After trial and error (more trial and many wasted hours), I was finally able to get 3 of the 4 working. The 4th one continued to give me the provisioning error. I tried everything: reinstall alexa app, reboot phone, 24 hour time, etc. Nothing worked, so I assumed it was faulty. I returned it and received a new one. Same problems as the last, I noticed that every time it tried to connect to the wireless that it would never get a local IP address. I use 10.0.x.x, it would always show as 192.168.1.1 So, I finally decided set a DHCP reservation for the Smart Plug and it worked right away. I don't know if this will work for you but it worked for me.
Well, I spoke to soon. First, I tried the same technique on the 5th plug (the one I was supposed to send back) and it didn't work...Same errors. So, I figured I was happy enough and I would just send that one back as planned. I went out for the afternoon and came home. I told Alexa to turn the lights on and.....all the lights turned on expect 4th plug. I looked at 4th plug, it was flashing red and I looked at my wireless router and it was coming up as 192.168.1.1 So, I guess I will send this one back too. These are more trouble than they are worth.
I have a Lutron Caseta Plug and it works perfectly. It's twice the price but infinitely less frustration. Maybe I should have just bought those.
Most other brands use the Smart Life App, as well as Enableing the Smart Life Skill in the Amazon Alexa App on your phone. They work flawlessly.
I have 14 in my house with no issues.
I do have an Amazon plug sitting in its box, only because they threw it in my order for 4.99, lol ,, now I know why ...
I have been following the problems people have been having, and it appears most are router/gateway related, with a lot being in the 10.0.0.xx arena ... I am in the 192.168.1.xx IP arena, and noted that the majority of issues were also corrected with updates.
Even when I go to set it up, and it does not work, I'm only out 5.00, but I expect it to work without issue.
