I picked up a couple of smart plugs on Prime Day from Tan Tan which appears to be compatible with Alexa. I downloaded their app, Smart Life, and the plug works great, I added it to the Alexa app and the plug works great through that as well, but I cannot get my Alexa (its a gen 1), Echo, or Cube, to turn it on or off using voice commands. They all just say no devices found: "I couldn't find a device named Socket 1" and when asked to discover devices I get "I did not find any new devices". I have tried a few things, like disabling the app and starting over, but no luck. Why would it work in the app, but not on voice controls?
I went ahead and have removed the device from Smart Life and Alexa, and then set it back up again in both. I have to use the AP mode to set it up as I have a dual band network and my phone is usually on the 5 and not the 2.4ghz band. After deleting and adding back in the outlet still works just fine from the Smart Life and Alexa app, including via voice in the Alexa App, but when I ask my Cube or Alexa device to power on the socket that I am playing with it says that it is sorry and cannot find the device. I even changed the name to be Socket in case it was not hearing me properly.
The device themselves seem to work just fine, it is just getting Alexa device to interface with it that is causing me pains. Again, no issues with using the apps but I want to be able to yell at my cube to turn the light on and off and that is not working.
Yes the cube is showing and is online. I am asking "Alexa turn on Socket" and getting back the reply of "no device found called socket" but I look in the Alexa app and there is Socket, which is the same as it is I the Smart Life app and I can turn it on and off in both of the apps. I am sure there is just some simple step I missed.
