Hi - I have an Ecobee 4 thermostat which is AWESOME. Besides being a great smart thermostat, it also doubles as an Amazon Echo device. Ecobee recently implemented the echo spatial perception feature so that it plays nicely with other echo devices that are in the house, however, Amazon does not seem to want to recognize the Ecobee as a device. I would like to be able to add the Ecobee to a multi-room music group (for example), but the Ecobee isn't available to do that.
Everything is connected to the same Amazon prime account, on the same wifi network, and all that.
Cary, I have to agree that Ecobee 4 thermostat is the bomb! We've only had ours for about a week and it is very difficult to walk by it without looking at it or asking Alexa a question. I would love to learn how to create a group as we have two Echo Shows and thinking about getting a couple more Alexa devices. I hope Amazon hears you!
It is important to realize that, it is a thermostat. Alexa gives it some voice power and, maybe, read you the news? But, thermostats are or should be located in a part of the house that is not too close to much. Usually the dinning room or hallway. Not really the place for an Echo speaker like the kitchen, family room, bathrooms, bedrooms, garage, etc. (bad places for a thermostat for good HVAC) I would not look to it for music or much else in the Alexa world. Dot's are cheap too…
I also would love to have my echobee4 play the same music I am streaming on my other Alexa enabled devices. Specially in those areas hard to get to, like dining rooms and hallways. I have a pool table just next to my thermostat that would be great to integrate with what is playing in my other areas in the house. Why have an Alexa capable device with some missing features ? , I hope they can add the Multi-room music to their next Firmware update.
Amazon, please integrate Alexa Multi Room Music and Drop-In features for Ecobee4 .. this is just painful to spend money for a device which is missing all of the main features. After installing the unit only to find you can't use these features is VERY DISAPPOINTING.. It is a bit misleading and I would have not spent the extra money for 'Alexa Enabled' devices and paid to have them installed if I would have known.. I think i very easily speak for the majority of device owners that we very much like Amazon and Ecobee, i just want them to work together. PLEASE SPEAK UP EVERYONE SO THAT WE CAN GET THIS DONE. Thanks!
Yes, please Amazon, add the ability to play music on the Ecobee together with the other Alexa devices, also the drop in feature would be nice

I'm not sure which is sillier: Playing music on a thermostat or that said thermostat *has* a speaker in the first place.
Ah, I know: it's even sillier (and scary) to have a thermostat that can listen in on conversations. Be a real surprise party in the guest bedroom. Reminds me of Soviet-era Moscow hotel room service: Just speak your request clearly within five feet of any lamp, telephone or mirror.

I'm trying to get mine done as well. While the speaker on the t-stat is actually fairly decent, you CAN bluetooth a speaker to it. This morning when I tried to play on all devices, I had to command them separately which created that much delay in the music play. I got it down to about 2 seconds, but it WOULD be nice to have them synced up.
Um, I can't even stand listening to music on the one dot we have. I need my full size echos for music and even then its usually only for background music like italian music on italian night. I have real stereo systems for music night. Isnt playing through a thermostat about as equal to elevator music? When did it become acceptable to listen to music on crappy speakers? But I must say, I do love my ecobee for what its designed for.
Amazon has a habit of restricting the functionality of 'Alexa' devices from other manufacturers. For example, many of these third party devices do not have the ability to have any wake word except Alexa. It took several months after the initial release of the Polk Command Bar and the Sonos Beam before they could be included in. multi-room music groups and I believe that is what you're running up against in trying to include the ecobee 4 in your music groups. It's also interesting that no other manufacturer has even hinted about releasing an Alexa device with a builtin Zigbee hub. Not all incarnations of Alexa are created equal.
We have our thermostat located in a hall, but it is relatively close to our main echo; sometimes the bee picks up voice commands over the main one, which can be frustrating, but there aren't many other places to put it as we live in just an upstairs unit. I don't care as much about the speaker for music, but it would be nice if the ecobee knew about other things like timers set on other devices, which seems to happen when you pair speakers.
