Hey guys, I’m sure you’ve seen by now that they’ve added the delete feature to the app, but I have an issue related to deleting... when I delete a device from both the website and the app, it successfully deletes only to come back within a few minutes. This is an issue as I know have duplicates of all my devices confusing my echo. Has anyone dealt with this?
Unfortunately, the website hack no longer works. It’ll allow you to do those steps and “Forget” the device. And it will actually remove the device from the list at that time. However, once you refresh, it appears again. And this is in conjunction with removing the device from the devices home app and disabling it within the Alexa app.
This is such a dumb thing for a “smart” device. Why would they not allow us to be able to completely remove a device?
This bug is still present. There is nothing listed so far that will work in deleting a device (since the device's existence actually lives on Amazon's server, and it's obvious it can't be deleted there).
The BIG issue with this is if a newly installed device doesn't respond to Alexa. (One gets the dreaded "[DEVICE NAME] doesn't support that." message) Then, even though it is a smart device, it cannot be controlled using Alexa and voice commands.
THIS may be reason enough to delete all existence of Alexa, and switch to Google. Amazon, get this taken care of!!
I was able to get Alexa to respond correctly to voice commands for the device by completely removing the device from the manufacturer's app, reinstalling, and naming it something different. However Alexa never deleted the original installation, only synced the changes. This was a functional workaround... this time. But what if the device is actually defective itself. You could throw it in the trash, but it's spirit will live forever on Alexa's server. Geez...
I did send notice of this bug and this thread to Amazon support via feedback at the Alexa website.
I wanted to send you a quick e-mail to let you know that I'm still researching "MyOffice" smart home device query. It usually takes 1-2 business days for this sort of research, but in this case it's taking a little longer. I'm very sorry about this delay.
I'll be in touch shortly with a resolution for you.
Thanks for your patience while we fix this problem. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
