My wife's paperwhite is picked up by her win10 lappie no probs.
Using the same cable mine is not recognised on my more modern tower also running win 10. I am seeing after searching around various forums that this is not rare.
The two kindles have the same firmware. I have tried multiple cables and USB ports to no avail.
So what is the fix please as I need to be able to do this.
make sure kindle is turned on and pin is input before connecting to PC
try a different usb port on your PC
look under Settings on your PC and select Devices - you might have to mount it. Also, it can take a few minutes for for a device to be recogized
Many thanks but as I mentioned already cables and ports have been tried. The device as also mentioned is not visible on the PC. Yes its turned on... LOL
On plugging in the USB the screen saying to read the device first eject, shows for a second, no more and then the book reappears.
Another thing you can try is to turn off your computer, plug in your Paperwhite, and then start your computer with the Kindle already plugged in. This works sometimes, so I don't guarantee it will work for you, but worth a try. Good luck!

Tried that a few times too, no joy.
