The new Kindle Oasis cover will work with the new and previous generation; however, the older covers will not work with the new generation.
I hope this clears things up.
Maybe I wasn't clear. The cover I have is the original leather magnetic cover for the Oasis 2017. I love it. I was hoping it would work with the new Oasis 2019, but it doesn't. I don't want a 'book' case, I want a cover that just covers the screen, but works as a stand. Ideally that doesn't add a lot of bulk, or is hard to remove, as I usually read with the Kindle 'naked' and just use the cover occasionally, or when I need to prop it up, like if I'm reading and eating.
I ordered my Oasis June 21st and received it today, July 25th. So far am very pleased with it. I have over 600 collections consisting of almost 5000 books. Yes, I download them all because that's the way I like it. I am able to download the collections easily and the books index quickly. The amber light is nice, makes reading easier on the eyes. So far, no problems. I hope everyone else will get theirs soon.
I am in the exact same boat. I have the original magnetic cover as well, and love it. I am so disappointed to find that it does not work with my new Oasis. Just wondering, did you, by any chance, order the champagne gold Oasis? My last one was the standard silver one, and worked beautifully. Could the color of the metal have anything to do with it not working?
Didn’t receive mine either. Doesn’t look it will ship until early August, but if I go on amazon to reorder exact same one it says in stock and will arrive next day. That some bs. I order mine a month in advance. It was also a guaranteed delivery the 24th. I guess guarantee doesn’t actually mean anything. Called customer service and they were of no help. They just wanted to get off the phone as soon as possible. Great work outsourcing customer service Amazon.
both of my Oasis' have been silver. I suspect that so many people complained about the original cover, that they decided to save the weight of extra magnets and left them out of this version. I was so bummed. I'm tempted to not use a cover at all, but I do sometimes take it out of the house, and would want a cover then. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who loved that cover.
I always prop my Kindle up when reading, so I'm really going to miss that case. I do have the Amazon leather cover in merlot that is still available and it's a nice inobtrusive cover, even though it does not fold into a stand. I may look into a small tablet stand to use with it. Definitely not as handy, but I like my Oasis covered as well.
So, I have my new Kindle, externally it is basically the same. However, the lights are not. With the "warmth" turned all the way down and the brightness all the way up the lighting is noticeably warmer than my 2017 oasis.
Normally my screen is very white. Which I like. Now, even with the brightness all the way up (and warmth off) my screen is yellowish. It looks like a book page that is twenty years old.
If it wasn't for the fact that my 2017 model freezes constantly when turning pages (has done since I bought it in 2017, returned it three times, gave up and have been waiting for the next model) I never would have bought the new one as I have no interest in warm lighting. Well, as long as there's no more freezing, I'll suck it up.
I would be interested to hear if others are the same yellowish. If not I'll know it's an issue and return it.
So in the same boat as others. Ordered it around the 1st of July and even now it says it will be delivered by 8pm today. But the email I received said it was delayed with no ETA. Got on chat and two support people later and I still have no ETA, just that it is about to ship and I will get shipment information when it does. The first customer service person kept telling me it would be here today, even though I pointed out I had received an email telling me it wouldn't be. So no device. No ETA. Customer service doesn't seem to know what is going on. Just glad I didn't do a device trade in. Feel sorry for those that did and are getting the run around.
It is showing as a pending transaction for the 23rd but I also have a pending transaction from the 19th so I really don't know...
Also, I did receive the Oasis today.
I had "chatted" with customer service about trading in my present kindle but that I didn't want to be "kindleless" I was told that when I got the new one to contact customer service and tell them to look at prior notes and they would be able to refund the trade in amount and the 25%. Hopefully it does work....
Well, it turned out the first person I talked to was totally wrong about applying the trade in retroactively, they agreed to give me a $50 credit for my old kindle but let me keep it also.
Ok, now I am furious. I spoke with two reps on the day it was supposed to be here. After one kept insisting it would be there that day, another begrudgingly admitted it was ALMOST ready to ship. TODAY I found out I would be getting it around Sept 11th or 12th! Is this a joke? And I can't chat with anyone. I try to chat with someone about the order I get the options of being all "set" - changing the "shipping" - or "cancelling" my order! That's it! I bought this on JULY 4TH. So I could have it on my birthday. I have to go in and approve this delivery to get it to ship. This is garbage. The Amazon reps lied to me and now they won't even answer. It isn't about the item at this point but that I ordered it for delivery day, then I get lied to, then I get told to APPROVE the shipping of it to me almost two months later!
Well I have learned, don't pre-order from Amazon. Pointless. If I had ordered it after release I would be getting it at the same time.
to ZarinaBlue and Chrisnm....I got the exact same run around as the both of you and I ordered on July12th. I have a friend who ordered over a week after me and is now being told it will be delivered tomorrow and my friend has a UPS tracking number. I will send an update tomorrow if he receives it or not. My friend ordered the same exact configuration as I did. I'm furious also! I used points to pay for part of my order. Did either of you use points or a trade in with your purchase? My friend didn't use either. Thank You.
Sorry.. I was away for the weekend. I received my new Oasis on Friday.. a day after I chatted with CS about the delay. When I was on Chat with them Thursday morning they said it was in the shipping process and I would get it within 2 days. My order never updated, I just got a "shipped" email late Thursday and it arrived the next day.
As others noted, this model doesn't have the magnets on the back so the magnetic case doesn't work. It does hold a little when you keep it closed, but falls off once you open the front. I ended up just getting a sleeve for it. This is OK since I have a skin on it anyway. It is the same skin I had on my 9th gen and everything works; so the general dimensions, button placement and light sensors appear to be identical.
Oh.. and this model uses the least amount of packaging than any Kindle to date. It is little more than the Kindle and USB cable in a slipcase.
I never got a refund of the $20 under the pre-order price guarantee. Instead they gave me a $30 credit on my gift card balance the next day. I didn't need to contact them about it, i just got an email Sat saying they "learned" of the price difference and would give me the credit to "make sure you receive the best price for your purchases and inconvenience caused". So that worked out well.
My friend got his on Monday 7/29 and he ordered on 7/22. On Monday I cancelled my original order made July 12th which set to be delivered September 12th. Also on Monday I ordered another Oasis and dropped the free cellular and it supposed to be delivered on 7/31....I'll keep you posted...
I ordered on 9 July and was given a delivery date of 31 July. Today, 31 July, the delivery date changed to 21 August. Three weeks! I was very upset. I called to ask why they moved the date out three weeks. They explained they don’t have it in stock. They said on the website the new availability date is 27 August but I would still get it on the 21st. I was issued a credit by way of apology.
I’m so bummed. I was so looking forward to this upgrade from the 2016 Paperwhite.
Well, I've had I don't know how many Kindles, (keybord, touch, Paperwhite, Voyage, Oasis 1 & 2) and this is only the second one that hasn't made me happy. The new Oasis won't work with the original (7 inch) magnetic cover that I love. The only case I've found that I like even a little bit, won't work with the sleep/wake function. The upgrades to the front light just don't seem enough to out-weigh what I don't like. I returned an original Oasis (6 inch) just didn't like the way it felt in the hand, and was hard to hold. But the 2017 Oasis was just perfect, feels great in my hand, little bit bigger screen, adaptive lighting and that beautiful leather magnetic cover. But for this release, it just seems, for me, that they got rid of things I liked. How easy would it have been to keep the magnets for the cover, and not move the magnets for the sleep/wake to work?
I only ended up paying $49 for this Oasis, with the trade in, discount and employee discount, and I don't want to get tangled up in trying to return, so my wife will take the new one, and I'll keep her old Oasis. I am definitely going to leave feedback, don't know that it will matter, but I'll get to tell Amazon my two cents.
The original 9th gen cases had enough issues staying attached that Amazon stopped producing them. They may have decided it wasn't worth trying that again. As for the position of the magnets for the sleep/wake, there may have been an EE issue with the original placement so they needed to alter it a little. The new placement is close enough that well made 9th gen cases, like Amazon's own, still work with that function. Mine worked fine for that function. The current Amazon cases, released back in Nov, are listed as working for both the 9th and 10th gen. It is only the unofficial 3rd party cases, with less quality control in their MFG tolerances, that have issues.
