Within Settings>PageDisplay>Font & Page Settings>Reading>Reading Progress is set to "Page In Book", but after a day or two the setting changes to "Location In Book" or "Time Left In Book". I know I have not changed the setting. I read in one of the threads that this may be due to having uploaded the book via USB. I guess page numbers isn't a big deal, I never had them on my Kindle Keyboard for 9 years. I just thought it would be neat to see the pages rather than the Location. Any thoughts on this minor issue.
if you have it set to Page in Books and the book does not have "real page numbers" (not all books have them) it will change to Location in book. I've seen this change if an update comes along where the Kindle will change to a sort of Recent and a default of no reading progress.
Thank you Meya and CBRetriever. 1. Tapping in lower left does not toggle through choices. 2. It is an older book(pub. 1995) not purchased from Amazon, and is in Mobi format. I can live with it not showing page numbers. I will put setting into 'Location' and see if it changes to anything else.
mobi books will not display page numbers and depending on the formatting, it likely won't display time left in chapter either. page numbers are usually in an auxilliary file (location to real page number concordances) downloaded along with the book from Amazon. You'll see the available options under the Aa icon in newer model Kindles like the Voyage and under the menu when a book is open on some older model Kindles, but on the Kindle Keyboard, you wont.
