I've never had this problem before, but I've tried over and over, I can read it on the kindle if it is attached to the computer, but once I've removed it when I go to read it, the book shows up on the home page, but it doesn't open. Instead I get a message that the book has been removed from my device. What is going on? Can anyone help me?
I had the same problem today with my Oasis (8th gen). I've owned multiple Kindles since generation 2 and had never seen this before. I spend hours googling for answers without success. Many people have reported this problem over the last few years, but none of the solutions given worked for me. I think resetting to factory settings probably would have worked, but that was a last resort and I wanted to try to find a quicker fix.
Here is what worked for me:
Plug the Kindle into the computer>cut the documents folder from the Kindle root folder and paste it on the desktop of your computer>eject the Kindle from the computer>reconnect the Kindle back to the computer>copy the saved docs folder from your computer desktop back into the root folder of the Kindle>eject the Kindle from the computer.
All your books will once again show up on your Kindle again and the place you left off in each book will be accurate once you open a book. Your collections will be missing, so you will have to recreate them.
