The other night I turned on my Paperwhite and it had an orange cast to it similar to the blu blocker night vision on my newest Fire HD. Is my screen starting to fail or does the Paperwhite have an option for this? I have not been able to find this option.
I noticed this dimmer tannish like color again when I turn my paperwhite off. It is only for a few seconds before it actually goes off. Should I be using the button on the bottom to turn it off or just close the cover and let it go into sleep mode? Should I turn off wifi to save the battery.
I've seen that flash of orange as well, but I think it's something from the lights. I use a quick tap on the button to put mine to sleep and I never turn it all the way off (I do put it in airplane mode, though)
If you have a 'smart' cover with the auto-wake/sleep feature, just close the cover. Otherwise, briefly press the power button to put the device to sleep. The two methods are equivalent.
Turning wifi off when not in use can reduce battery usage, however, if you have a good wifi signal, the savings is probably minimal. Searching for wifi networks or trying to maintain a connection to a poor signal will use significantly more power than maintaining a good connection. I leave my Kindle's wireless on when I'm at home or someplace with a strong signal, and turn it off elsewhere.
