Are there any new features that would make me want to purchase a new Kindle when I have the paper white?
What I would really like is a much clearer way to tell how far I have read. Maybe a percentage instead of the dots.
I would like to be able to mark a book as read. The dots don't really help.
I would like to see a feature to place books in any order so a series can be read.
It sounds like a Fire tablet might come closer to meeting your needs if what is of most interest to you is what you've stated in your post. On a Fire, you can see percentage read & time left to complete a book. You can make collections of series books & arrange them in whatever order you like. Marking a book as read, unless you have a collection just for books that have been read, can be problematical, particularly with series books. (Tho in a series collection, with the books in order, those already read could be moved to the end.)
And the Kindles have their advantages. It's just a matter of matching up your requirements with a device.
On my older Kindle Paperwhite it tells on the bottom right what percent of the book I am reading that I have finished. Also on the bottom left I can touch the screen and it will tell me how many minutes to finish a chapter or the book. Also location in numbers and page number, if available.
Does this answer your question or did I misunderstand?
