I manually installed the update that is required and it now says it has software 1.2.1. It shows 4 bars of signal strength when trying to sync it it then shows wireless connecting and still pops up with a screen that says, "Your Kindle is unable to connect at this time. Please try again later." Any ideas on how to get it to connect so I can use it? I have tried restarting it several times and that did not change anything. Thanks!
there was no Paperwhite in 2007, it didn't appear until 2012. If you are indeed talking about the big white wedge-shaped device with a scroll wheel, that's a Kindle 1 (1st Gen) and it uses Sprint and Sprint coverage is rather poor and only available in the US proper. Here's a link to the Sprint coverage:
Note: Sprint is gradually phasing out 2G & 3G which are the only ways the Kindle 1 can connect in favor of 4G which the Kindle 1 cannot use. You could try a different location in your house or community and see if it works, but that's an 11 year old device so it's possible it might not work. My Kindle 2 is still connecting, but it's using AT&T.
