Yeah, but when you hand over a book, all your other books are still available to you.
As are the Kindle books on the device. 'Copies' are available for you to read on all compatible devices, up to the number of licenses allowed by the publisher. If that happens to be six (very common, some are unlimited...however, textbooks may be limited to one or two licenses), six people can read the same book, on six different devices...at the same time. Not feasible with one copy of a physical book.
Although this an old thread, I imagine others will have similar issues.
The solution seems rather simple, give the grandkids Kindled and Kindle gift cards. Unlike a normal Amazon gift card this will ensure they buy books. But they will get to pick the books they like.
The solution is to use the Buy for Others option from the book's product page. All you need is the recipient's email address. They will get an email telling them of the gift, with instructions on how to accept it on their own Amazon account.
Unless something has changed, there are no "Kindle Specific" gift cards. There are simply Amazon Gift Cards. You can purchase actual physical cards, or email delivered digital gift cards. These can be used for any eligible items on Amazon. These are country specific, meaning a card bought on the US site can only be used on the US site.
There are gift cards with the Kindle logo Amazon is calling "KIndle Gift cards" but that's just one choice out of multiple designs. but they are standard Amazon gift cards to be used for anything. Few if any retailers are going to limit how you spend gift card money especially when it would entail major efforts to implement such a system on their end.
NOTE: I do NOT speak for or represent Amazon in any fashion. This is a customer to customer forum.
