My kindle charges but will not turn on. If I hold it for the 40 seconds it shows the kindle screen and the progress bar at the bottom. It gets to the end of the progress bar and goes directly to a screensaver type screen. Never opens the Kindle. Also never goes to a totally blank screen if I try to turn it off. Any suggestions before it hits the trash?
Doesn't matter which Paperwhite Linda has as the instructions would be the same for all of them. I suggest using a different cable and plugging it into your computer for a couple of hours, then doing a restart by holding the power button in for a full 30 seconds
"Hey! Great question! I love music in all my rooms too! Now with Multi-Room Music, you can synchronize and control music playback across your compatible Echo devices (Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Show).
You can create Multi-Room Music groups in the Alexa app: "
Sandra, I'm curious what this has to do with a Paperwhite not turning on?
Edited to add: the original post I quoted has since been removed. Just wanted to point that out so it doesn't look like I'm making up stuff here.
Absolutely my error. I apologize so very much! it was for a different thread with some music playback issues. So sorry again and that's great instruction given by CBRetriever for you Paperwhite.

Like Linda I cannot turn off my new Kindle Paperwhite whereas I could with my older version. I travel a fair bit and need to completely turn off my device. A friend has the latest Kobo and has no problem. I will either have to trash my new purc and revert to using my earlier version or changeover to Kobo. It is ridiculous that I cannot completely shut down my device.
Hi Michael! Let’s walk through some steps to turn off your device.
The Power button is at the bottom-most part of the device beside the USB port.
Press and hole the power button. Do this for about 5 to 7 seconds until the charge indicator light beside the Power button blinks.
Release the power button. The screen will go blank after pressing and holding the Power button; as soon as the screen goes blank, release the Power button.
There is also an airplane mode located in the menu (the three bars)>Settings>Airplane mode so you can turn off wifi while traveling.
Safe travels!

That process, it not done at the exact right time just leads to a reboot
It was right above that Mod Sandra's post. I directed Michael to customer support, thinking his device might be defective. Now all I see is a thick gray line. :-(
