If you purchase a new or additional remote or controller for your Fire TV your can pair it using the following instructions:
To pair an additional or replacement Fire TV remote:
Select Settings from the Fire TV menu.
Open Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.
Select Amazon Fire TV Remotes, the select Add New Remote.
Press and hold the Home button on your new remote for up to 10 seconds.
Your Fire TV then searches for the remote's wireless signal. Once discovered, the new remote displays in the list on-screen. Use one of your already-paired remotes or controllers to select it from the list.
You can then start using the new remote with your Fire TV.

Just an observation - it invariably take 30-45 seconds holding down the Home button to pair the remote on any of my FireTV devices. If the device doesn't appear to be pairing, try holding down the home button on the remote for 1 minute.
There is no USB or HDMI or any other port on my Fire TV remote. Strictly a WiFi device. I’m talking about the remote control. The Fire Stick or the Fire TV box, yes, they have HDMI connectors and need HDMI cables (not USB cables).
