For past 5 days have not been able to stream 4K with previously purchased Fire TV (3rd gen), or a brand new Fire Stick 4K just installed today. If I try to stream a 4K video I get no audio, and about 5 seconds of video, then it stops, screen goes blank, then this cycle keeps repeating. Fire devices are attached to a 4K UHD 65" LG tv. I have the Prime Video app installed on my LG tv and that streams 4K just fine. Problem occurs with the Fire TV devices. I've spent 3 days on phone with Amazon tech support. They remotely checked my system, deregistered and re-registered my Fire TV, but problem continues. I have Spectrum internet service, and remote checks by their tech support, and several reboots of modem and router have not resolved the problem. WiFi speed tests yield 35 to 120 Mbps, depending on how many devices are active. After the 4K stream failure, I also cannot stream any videos on my HBO or Playstation Vue apps. After doing clear cache and data, and force stop on Prime Video app, then a restart on the Fire TV, I am able to stream all but 4K video again. My thoughts are that the Amazon Fire TV devices may not have enough memory to buffer the amount of data of a 4K stream, since all other video comes through just fine. Added note, this issue first started on Nov 1, 2019. I was able to stream 4K the first 3 episodes of "Jack Ryan" on Friday, Nov 1, but 4K streaming problem started on Sat, Nov 2, and has persisted on 2 devices since then. NEED AN ANSWER FROM AMAZON ABOUT WHY THEIR DEVICES SUDDENLY ARE NOT CAPABLE OF 4K!
NEED AN ANSWER FROM AMAZON ABOUT WHY THEIR DEVICES SUDDENLY ARE NOT CAPABLE OF 4K!
Amazon must be working on this issue. I have had six software updates on my 4K device. Verify that after you have installed an update that there is not an update immediately behind the earlier update. I just checked Jack Ryan on my 4K device at it works on my system.as well as my Cube 2.0. If your 4K TV is up to date, give it a shot on a different television to see if your 4K stick and TV are incompatible at the high resolution. If it works on a different TV go back to your problematic TV and determine if a lower resolution such as 1080 works. Please then communicate your test results to Amazon tech support.
Amazon Tech Support verified my Fire TV was up to date. New 4K Fire Stick was installed, and updated. Unable to stream 4K immediately after install. I have the Prime Video app installed directly on my LG 4K UHD television and I am able to stream 4K from Amazon Prime, Netflix, Fandango.... all done through the apps installed directly on my television. So my television if fully capable of 4K. It is only when using either 4K Fire device that the streaming fails. And after the 4K failure with those devices, it causes streaming failures on other apps installed on those devices....HBO, Playstation VUE, Netflix. I have cleared cache, cleared data, restarted, re-installed, reset internet modems and routers.... in other words EVERYTHING EVERYONE HAS SUGGESTED, AND 4K FAILS ON THE AMAZON DEVICES! I consider myself to be very tech savy, and I've installed and used a considerable number of A/V components over the past 4 decades. I've seen numerous complaints about Amazon 4K in recent blogs and internet searches, and to me this appears to be a specific device issue, and the sooner the manufacturer admits this and fixes it, the happier we Amazon users will be!
