A show will play 5-15 minutes then pause (as if it's buffering). I rewind slightly and it will play for 5 more minutes. That will only work a couple of times and I often will have to exit the app and restart it to get the show to play again for a few minutes. This started a couple of months ago and has gotten progressively worse. It's all day long, every day now where it used to come up once in a blue moon.
Prime video works perfectly without pausing.
Netflix app directly through the Samsung smart hub on my TV does NOT have this issue (also through the wifi connection)
I had a router for many years and swapped it out in hopes that would resolve it.
Specific troubleshooting tips:
I have rebooted the firestick.
I have completely uninstalled the NetFlix app and reinstalled it.
Any suggestions that I haven't already tried would be appreciated.
I rebooted the router and unfortunately, it's in the same boat. As a reminder the old router was experiencing similar issues and this is a brand new router I installed. Also it works perfectly fine on the firestick through prime video, it is only through the netflix app on the firestick that this occurs.
Great suggestion. We tried to get it to hang on PBS and ABC for a couple of hours this morning and they worked fine without an issue. I called Netflix and their solution was to reboot the firestick and if that doesn't work follow the instructions they e-mailed which stated to restart the firestick. They had a very poor support department.
Still same issue, a bit more background is that netflix streams fine through iphones and ipads in the house.
It's only Netflix on the firestick where the issue occurs.
Netflix develops the app and has primary responsibility. However, Amazon should be made aware of the situation if Netflix doesn't help you. I'm sure they can put pressure on Netflix if they choose to.
Based on info you've posted it seems the problem has to be either some quirk of your home network or a defective fire stick. When you test your network connection in stick settings what quality rating does it say? The sticks are so cheap I would not be surprised it Amazon would offer to replace it if you push them on it.
The earlier Fire Sticks may not have the bandwidth of the 4K stick. Using a non-4K stick, I had buffering issues with my upstairs Fire Stick (two floors from the router in the basement). The 4K stick fixed my up stairs Recast buffering issues. This may be the same for high bandwidth apps.
