Ya so this TV is useless now. Disney+ has about %90 of its content presented in HDR. And none of it is watchable on this tv. Ive been in contact with Insignia as this tv is still under a 1 year warranty. They tell me Amazon should have a update available within the next two weeks to address this issue. Now that is unacceptable imo. This tv, which is under warranty, has a huge manufacturer defect. Its a software issue, but a defect none the less. Im seeking my money back, in full, and if needed, will be going to the media about this. They sold us all a tv that says HDR compatible, and that couldn't be further from the truth. I didn't buy the tv knowing that, it will be HDR compatible at some point in time, maybe. What really bothers me is that they are STILL SELLING THIS TV!!! This product needs to be recalled untill it functions as advertised.
I have the same issue on Disney + and Xbox HDR content...
I spoke to them as well on the phone they did say it would be fixed in the next week its a known issue for the last month and its in amazon's software developers hands ... he said for me to call them back in a week.
Im going to sit tight another week or two and see what they say.
It was working fine prior to this issue so its just a matter of a software update.
Please keep us updated on that. I hope they get to it fast because I've had this issue since the middle of August. The problem with dark content also seems to be the case when Fire TV Stick 4K's try to display SDR content with Always HDR selected, or when apps force display HDR content on non-HDR TVs. I'm thinking the issue with the FireTV Editions is similar to the latter. The TV might be always trying to display the HDR content in an SDR colour depth.
I went to Best Buy on the weekend where I bought the tv with my receipt and complained to them about the tv being dark on HDR / 4k content.
They seemed to be very understanding about the issue (to my surprise) even though they have a strict 30 day in store return policy and I bought this tv in August 2019.
The guy I was talking to went to their manager and explained the issue and they said no problem just bring the tv in and you can have a store credit. I told them I dont have the tv box anymore etc... they said no problem just drop off the tv and you can have the store credit. So I did, and got a upgraded Samsung 4k tv at almost the same price and everything works perfectly on that one. So Im happy.
I would suggest you guys do the same if you can... I have this feeling this most certainly is a known issue yet since they have stock of the tv they need to sell it so they are doing so and hoping people may not notice or come across this issue...
Anyhow, good luck all - interested to hear your stories
So I installed a new update today, and have found that has turned HDR setting off. I can now watch anything in HD quality. Finally. A working tv. I did notice how ever, the HDR rating isn’t showing on those Disney+ shows like it was before. So what they did, is disabled HDR. Well, I’m happy I can use my tv. But not happy that we all bought a tv that stated it was HDR compatible, when in fact, it is not. At least not with this software......for now I’ll take this as a win
On Disney + All the shows and Marvel movies were too dark to watch so I attached a roko device to my TV and all the shows through that were absolutely fine. Then about a week i noticed everything was now fine on the TV and took the Roko off. Then yesterday all the shows were dark again. Netflix, every single new show or film that comes on is too dark, example Stranger Things, first two seasons are fine, Third season is unwatchable. Prime is also the same, new shows I can't watch. Watch Netflix through my cable provider and its absolutely good. Very Very frustrating.
Have tried everything suggested and have talked to Insignia, Netflix and Disney. No dice.
