I bought this TV in May of this year. Everything has been perfect until last night I got an update prompt while playing HDR game, did the update, and now Xbox One X enhanced games are Extremely dark. Adjusting picture settings, contrast, brightness, etc.. does nothing. I went through all the xbox settings, everything is fine. Same with TV settings. I was using HDMI port 3, I also tried ports 1 & 2. Currently using #1. Prior to updating, if I were playing a HDR game, Mortal Kombat 11 to be exact. By holding the home button and I go to picture settings it would say "xbox HDR" when playing HDR games. Just say "xbox" for non-HDR. I've unplugged tv, reset it also.
I'm very technically inclined, the various troubleshooting I've done is as follows
-Set xbox one to 1080P, everything is fine, but no HDR when playing hdr game. TV also only says "xbox"
-set xbox to 4K, HDMI mode 1 or auto... same as above. Xbox also shows some incompatibilities with TV and 4k.
-set xbox 4k hdmi mode 2, screen is extremely dark. TV says "xbox hdr" for the input. Xbox shows that my tv is fine for full 4k HDR, aside from no 50Hz support. thats always been that way. This is the configuration I always been using. Like I said since update last night, Xbox one x enhanced games are very dark once the game title screen loads. Non-enhanced games are fine.
So I guess my real problem is, Do amazon know about this problem?, and I hope they don't take long to fix it. It seems to me like the problem is when the xbox one x says to the tv.. "ok I am now using a HDR enabled game, so tv, enable HDR now" The xbox dash board and stuff is all fine too, When I go from a dark HDR screen to Home on xbox, its fine, go back to game, its dark.
Its so dark I can't really see anything.
P.S. I ABSOLUTELY love this tv.. great picture, great sound, great price.
Since this issue has to do with the hardware level of the OS, specifically the video I/O, you need to contact the TV Manufacturer, Insignia. Amazon can really only assist with the FireTV integration in the TV. Contact them at the following page: https://www.insigniaproducts.com/contact-us/
Curious, which company is the creator/issuer of the updates? Prior to this update I got on the past Monday night, don't know the exact version is was before, but now its FireOS 22.214.171.124 (NS6265/2155). This seem more like a problem with the software (fireos) not giving correct instructions to the hardware. I come to this conclusion because it was fine until the update. It is really annoying too.. its even more annoying that I can't figure out a fix. I'm a programmer, bugs really get to us. :)
Just posting to this as well in case a solution pops up here instead. It has to be Amazon's firmware update. HDR was fine for a while and then the newest update has made it too dark. Games like Rocket League and Gears of War can't be played with HDR anymore. Not the end of the world, but pretty disappointing. I don't think Insignia is at fault.
I have emailed Insignia, they replied with couple things for me to try. None worked, besides I have already done any troubleshooting scenario you can think off. I will keep this thread updated with anything I find out.
We bought this tv 3 weeks ago. Same problem as above, started last night. Not impressed. Paying for amazon, Xbox one X ;game pass and live, netflix and internet to use with this tv and currently so dark nearly impossible to use.
Anyone have suggestions? Figure out how to ammend?
I bought this TV for same reason. I Even bought Xbox One X just week ago for this TV.
The only workaround that I know, which I do, Hold the Home Button for few seconds, Go Picture > Advanced Settings > HDMI Input Mode > Set it Mode 1.4. 1.4 will not allow HDR. This works on xbox. Don't see a reason why it shouldn't for other devices. But, apps.. I can't see it working because their is no HDMI port involved.
Got to add, its not nearly impossible to use. It is impossible to use. At least for me.
Received email from tech support to use a button combination to get log sent to them. They needed me to provide the log #. Basically said that they're aware of the issue, working on fix, and to sit tight. In which I will do. Hopefully it don't take to long.
I am having a problem as well with a dark screen when watching some new TV shows on Prime Video (Carnival Row) and some shows previously viewed with no issue. Not am having the same problem with some new shows on Netflix. Called insignia support last week..no help. Tried everything to adjust picture quality to no avail. Cleared app caches, no change.
I can view these shows on my old pc but not on my new Smart TV? Makes no sense.
