My receiver has issues with 4k so I change the resolution on the 4k firestick down to 1080p. The fire stick resets every 2 hours back to 4k (auto). How can I get it to stop changing?

Hi V_PHX, welcome to our Digital and Device Forum!
I'm sorry that you have this problem. Go to Settings > Display & Sounds > Display and open the Video Resolution section. When video resolution is set to "Auto," a notification displays in the right panel if HDCP 2.2 is not detected for your Fire TV's HDMI connection. Are you able to toggle/turn off Auto after changing to 1080p?
It says the HDMI port can not support HDCP 2.2 (as it is feeding through a receiver). The video plays (at I assume 2160) but the screen goes black when I try to change the volume on my receiver.
The highest resolution I can go that does not affect the receiver is 1080 @ 60hz. However 2 hours later it resets itself to the "Auto 4K".
How do I get the fire stick to stay put and not keep resetting?

Hi V_PHX, is it plugged into a receiver? If so, that could be causing problems, can you check and see if the same behavior happens when it's plugged directly into your TV?Also, make sure you are on the latest device Software and clear the cache of your device.Let us know, thank you!
I have a similar problem. I have the Firestick 4k plugged into a Yamaha RX-V671 amp that should handle 1080p. To make it work, I have to plug the Firestick into another TV, change the display from Auto to 1080 and then plug back into my amp.
If I turn off the Firestick and then turn it back on, the Firestick is back in Auto and nothing is displayed so I have to again take to another TV to change the settings back.
I'm also having an issue with the the display setting changing.
Ive noticed I get my best picture using the 2160 {60hz} setting as the up to 4k option doesn't always give me the best picture !!
my processor handles 4k but what happens is it keeps reverting back to the "UP TO" 4k {meaning it will also give you a 1080 P picture.
I'm guessing that the powers that be would much rather we watch in a 1080 P HD picture as its less a demand on there service ???
sure hope someone can get back to me, the difference in picture quality from the 2160 P 60 hz down to 1080 P HD is huge .
Hi living room display, welcome to our Digital and Device Forum!
I'm sorry that you have this problem. Please try the below troubleshooting steps.
Watch Video in 4K Ultra HD on Your Fire TV
Compatible devices automatically detect whether requirements are met to stream videos in 4K Ultra HD.
Tip: If your Fire TV is connected to a compatible Ultra HD TV, the Movies and TV categories in the Fire TV menu typically include "4K Ultra HD" rows with popular titles.
Requirements
High-speed Internet connection of at least 15 Mbps. Some video apps (for example, Netflix) recommend at least 20 Mbps.
An Ultra HD TV with at least one HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2 content protection standards
Other devices that are part of your home theater setup (such as HDMI receivers and sound bars) must also support HDCP 2.2.
To check if your TV supports HDCP 2.2 from the Fire TV menu:
Go to Settings > Display & Sounds > Display.
Open the Video Resolution section.
Set your video resolution to Auto. A notification displays if HDCP 2.2 is not detected for your Fire TV's HDMI connection.
Tip: HDCP 2.2 may not be supported for all of the HDMI ports on your Ultra HD TV. Ports labeled "Mobile High-Definition Link" (MHL), "HDCP 2.2," "UHD," or "4K" typically support HDCP 2.2. The user guide or product packaging for your TV may have more information.

Doreen,
I have the firestick 4k plugged directly into my 4k pre-amp/ processor , all hdmi ports are 2.2 , the output cable to my display is 4k certified, I don't get the error msg. when I'm in auto "up to 4k" setting on the firestick , but my display is only giving me a 1080 resolution in that auto "up to 4k" setting.
my display gives me a 2160 resolution when I select the 2160 @ 60 HZ setting on my firestick.
the question I have is WHY is that setting being switched Back to the auto "up to 4k" setting , for me it's not giving me my best picture.....
I'm having the exact same problem with my 4k Fore Stick.
TV is an LG OLED65B7A, with all 4 input ports HDCP 2.2. The TV is connected to my receiver which is a Pioneer LX-302, with all 6 inputs supporting HDCP 2.2.
I checked for latest firmware versions on the TV, receiver, and Fire Stick, and all are up to date.
I have to go back into the Fire Stick almost daily to revert back to 2160p 60Hz, as the Fire Stick always changes back to "Auto" for some reason.
One additional note to my above setup: I have the following HDMI cable from my TV to my receiver: Monoprice Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cable, 4K@60Hz, HDR, 18Gbps, 28AWG, YUV 4:4:4, 10ft, Black.
Just wanted to show that even my HDMI cables are all 4K compatible as well.
If you have a Yamaha AV receiver in the middle that supports HDCP 2.2 and you are seeing this issue, the fix is to change the hidden 4K mode on the amp, then set the Amazon stick back to auto/4K.
To change the mode, follow the directions below... the one you want is Mode 1... they ship defaulted to Mode 2.
"Make sure the Yamaha is changed to Mode 1.
Instructions: 1) Turn receiver off. 2) Hold down Straight button on the front of the receiver, while doing so press power button, then release Straight button. 3) Press the Program left arrow button until the receiver bring up "4k Mode", then press the Straight button to toggle it to 1. Reboot everything and it should work."
It worked for me, same initial symptoms as those described above.

Hello V_PHX. I have the exact same problem, did you manage to get a solution? Or does Amazon has any, suggestion?
