I was searching the net also looking for a way to turn off the constant weak signal notification. The channels that display the notice come in perfectly. If I reorient the antenna, the notification just switches to other channels. Has anyone tried contacting a live Amazon rep? While they couldn’t fix the issue, perhaps they would at least make the powers that can make the fix possible aware of the problem.
I understand the flashing notification is supposed to be helpful, but it’s more annoying than helpful. I can tell if the signial is weak just by the picture and or audio. The software engineers could easily add an option to disable the constant notification or allow the user to adjust the sensitivity of the signal detector. As of 09/14/19, I have found nothing in the strings to disable this annoying pop up. Otherwise the recast is an awesome product. I hope the engineers issue a fix soon, as the channels that are actually coming in perfectly clear are really unwatchable with the constant annoying pop up.
PUH-LEEEEEZZZZ make a way for me to turn off the week signal popup on my Recast!!!!! Maybe its weak by some measure, but my big screen 4K TV looks pretty good at the same time I get the message- except for the really annoying message blocking my view. The popup is irritating!!!!! WAY more than occasional fuzziness or pixelation. What REALLY fried me? This Recast is new to me, and with football starting up, I was really looking forward to recording my team's games. I had to work last Sunday but no worries - set the Recast to record, and when I got home, changed my clothes, got my lunch and a cold one and sat back to enjoy the game. Two things happened: Recast informed me that because of weak signal, it didn't even try to record the game. 2nd thing: my team had an AMAZING game - and I missed it. And I bet the signal looked just fine on my TV. After viewing all the other posts on this thread and Amazon doing NOTHING to fix it, I'm sending it back. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!
Your petition reads, "Try repositioning your satellite". This makes no sense. Amazon Recast has nothing to do with a satellite. Takes the teeth out of the complaint if it's worded wrong. Please re-write it correctly and I will happily sign it.
Like others, I am also having the same issue. The audio/video are fine but that weak signal notification that pops up is very annoying. There needs to be a way to toggle between on and of for that message. Otherwise, I'd gladly recommend recast to others, but this is a pretty serious flaw in the product affecting usability/watchabilty. I understand the need to get the product to market, but this defect should have been corrected in a software fix by now.
Is anybody who can add this to a task list out there?
I have to officially withdraw all my past support for the Recast system. The weak signal popup notification is annoying enough, but now the dvr wont record because of "weak signal". I absolutely do not have a weak signal. My reception is perfect. I cannot count the number of times we have seen that message popup on a pristine picture. You've had more than enough time to fix or at least acknowledge this problem Amazon. Please, let the dvr record and I will decide if the signal is watchable or not ( hint, it is ALWAYS watchable). Just to be clear, I have a Wineguard outdoor antenna and get full signal strength on the TV (Recast dosent even have signal meter!). DON'T BUY RECAST>>IT IS FAULTY!!
I get your frustration and I have it too and Amazon should be embarrassed this has not been fixed sooner but, I found getting my outdoor UHF/VHF antenna higher (metal broom stick slipped inside Antennas Direct mount) helped a lot. When I get my chimney repointed, I will have the mason mount it even higher on the brick (no broom stick needed). It is 1955 all over again! I still get the warning but, usually in only three instances: 1) when I first go to a station and 2) for truly bad stations, this is if they are too far or bad mast placement (on compass, for my location) for the stations I prefer it to get. and 3) is the time of year. When the neighbor's tree's leaves drop, I should get better reception. There is one other reason: the FCC repack. I am not getting a major (second) PBS station. At all. Won't even scan in. I am pretty sure this is because they are on a temp low power antenna that just can't make it to me. They say, this “Fall” it should be normal… The FCC repack is still happening until middle of next year so, stations anywhere might be down or temp low power at any time. Other than all of this, I have found the Recast useful. If only as a back up for shows I don't want to miss. I sent it to record as series and, if something comes up that prevents me from watching, I can. Neighbor needs help, dog gets skunked, climate crisis triggered massive freak rain storm starts flooding basement, etc. I can dash away and know, no biggie, it is being recorded. Also, with the antenna up high, I get a university PBS station for the first time (a third PBS). They have some different stuff than the standard city stations. Like Jazz festivals and performances. If I see that, I just record it and watch it later. The second PBS station I am not getting at the moment, also programs differently from the other two. Usually showing things before they do. Richer big city PBS station… https://www.broadcastingalliance.org/fcc-repack-in-a-nutshell/
For what its worth, I just purchased a Recast and I'm already occasionally seeing this message. I would greatly prefer to keep the recast rather than pay monthly fees to Tivo, but I know this popup is going to bug me. I contacted amazon support to throw my vote in for disabling the pop-up and got this reply:
"Our engineering team is aware of the issue. They are currently working on it and will remove this message in coming software updates. When there is an update available, recast device completes the update through fire TV device automatically."
Hoping this is actually true and that update is coming soon!!
," I have a Wineguard outdoor antenna and get full signal strength on the TV (Recast dosent even have signal meter!). DON'T BUY RECAST>>IT IS FAULTY!!" Unfortunately ;your statement is false. A better statement would be buyer beware that in some locations the Recast device may not behave as you desire. If ;you are one of those above, return the device' however, if you do not get this pop=up, enjoy the device as I do. The Recast paired with a Fire Stick permits me to have DVR capability without having to have Direct TV or pay for other similar services.
Last night I got the popup three times during a one hour show, but the picture looked perfect the whole time. Why do we need this popup at all? If we get poor reception, the picture will have problems and it will be obvious to us. Why have a popup pointing out the obvious?
If Amazon feels that the popup is necessary, why not just flash the warning ONCE at the beginning of the show. Although the popup is unnecessary, showing the warning once at the beginning wouldn't be too bad.
