I thought I knew how to move and rearrange apps on the FireTV and Firesticks but it doesn't work anymore.
I've always pressed the home button until the option to select "Apps", then I see all of my apps. From there, I would highlight the app I want to move, press the menu button (the 3 lines) and select "move" to move the apps around. But the "move" isn't listed in the options anymore, just "unpin" or "pin to front", "more info", and "uninstall". The "move" is missing, so I can't move or rearrange my apps.
Any ideas? Was this a recent update that changed this?
I did some checking, looks like this is an issue for FireTVs. The above link explains the work around. Must pin the apps to the front in the reverse order you want to show on the screen. No way to simply "move" them anymore.
Crazy.... hopefully this will be fixed soon. Very frustrating and what a waste of time trying to find a solution (or what I was doing wrong!)
Why ??? Tired of updates completely changing what worked fine and what Amazon customers have become custom to the simplicity is a big seller, I myself can keep up with technology and change but I sold older family members and friends (VERY MANY) on the Amazon Fire tv platform because their not so tech savvy, and most of us still have 1st generation fire tv box, don't leave us older loyal customers hanging with updates that will no longer work on equipment we spent good money on ($99) each box and have one in every room, (or give discounts on equipment for old customers) I like rearranging my apps in the order I want them in put the option back, and add options versus completely removing one and maybe send feedback to customers asking about certain changes before doing it, nothing worse than turning on your system and finding a complete change. Notice watch list was messed up and now fixed today (Wed. 3 /27/ 19) Pin to front opinion never liked it on anything.
The point of software UI design is to improve the end user experience, not take away the features that work and replace them with ones that don't!! I have 5 fire TV's or Sticks. Do you think it is a pleasant experience to "PIN" apps backwards on 5 devices as a workaround when a new app comes out? I agree with Cornel - find the person that thought his would be a good idea and tell them it is their last day. Obviously they are not qualified for the job.
Amazon has been updating their hardware frequently (more than twice a month). Someone posted a link to a 3rd party on another thread that permitted us to see the various updates and features fixed/added; however, it appears that amazon deleted those posts and I did not copy the link to file for future reference. Perhaps someone would repost that link and we can copy it before it is removed. Amazon itself does not post a list of features being modified/updated nor do they tell us when the update is forth coming. I can understand from a configuration management perspective why they do not want us to have the option to decline an update. Their testing facility and regression testing would become unmanageable if customers could chose what updates to apply across all the various hardware platforms we utilize.
The story goes, Skullz, that "some" users could not find their downloaded apps so Amazon decided all newly downloaded should be placed at the front of the apps list. The brilliant programmer assigned to this task decide that "Pin to front" would also help these lost users find their latest cartoons for the grand kids, so why would "move" be needed any longer. After all, how many apps could they possibly have. And since said programmer had likely never been a user, here we are.
I screamed in pixels to support again today.
Support suggest I unregister and reregister. I didn't want to take a chance on losing more than I have so did not. I suspect that will fix nothing but if anyone tries and it works. I'd love to hear about it. I check every day for new updates and though there are updates several times a week. none have brought this back.
Terrible update. It fixed nothing and broke the only redeeming feature the device had for managing a one line display of apps. I hope their overpaid developers fix this soon, as it has been broken for over 3 months already. How hard is it to not make things worse for absolutely no reason? Why would they ever need to remove the only viable app management feature on the device. They might as well discontinue the whole product if they can't hire people who are capable of not ruining everything they touch.
I have 2 fire tv 2's. Like most of us was dismayed the move function had been replaced with the pin to front 'feature with the Fire OS 188.8.131.52 (632552020) software update. My 2nd fire tv had not been updated and still had the 184.108.40.206 software and the move function, so I would turn of the power to it when I was done so it would not update automatically.
An interesting thing happened when I recently used the 1st fire tv and found it had at some point updated and now has under the options, Move, Move to front, More info and Uninstall...Wonderful, however the software version Fire OS 220.127.116.11 (632552020) had not changed at all, so I guess amazon does 'small' updates without changing the version at all?
In the meantime, I have been using my 2nd fire tv and recently forgot to power it down and so it updated itself to Fire OS 18.104.22.168 (632552020), just like my 1st fire tv, so i thought it would have the Move & the Move to front options. What an unpleasant surprise when I found it had only the Pin to front option, even though the software version was exactly the same number. Anyone have any idea what is going on?
