We have been using the recast for several months now and the same issue keeps occurring. When we are watching a recorded show and the recast starts to record a show (on live tv) our tv screen immediately goes black and we need to use the "back" button and "resume" the recording to continue watching our recorded show. Wondering if anyone else is having the same issue.
This is a joke. I was online in a chat for over an hour and passed off to 7 different people include one person twice. I was also told this wasn't a know issue and published a link to this page so amazons own employees could see its a know issue.
I love my recast. I love clear well recorded tv. I can skip through commercials. I'm able to binge watch shows I haven't had time for using the recast.
BUT when is a DVR not a DVR? When it goes black while your watching a previously recorded show repeatedly during prime time because its starting a recording. When is a DVR not a DVR. When it goes black because another recording starts and you have to back out 2 or 3 screens and then start viewing again.
Come on Amazon does anyone use their own products? Its easy to reproduce. Record stuff. Wait then set up another recording. Just 5 or ten minutes before your next show starts to record start watching your previously recorded show. Just as things get interesting BOOM black screen.
Oh and if yoi don't have an answer to a problem politely say the team is working on a solution dont waste an hour of my time with no answer!
During prime time I know what time it is because either on the hour or half hour my recast playback stops and I have to restart. All because a new recording is starting.
I just tested mine. Oddly, the time was off in the schedule by several hours, so I did a restart. Yet another update was available. Sheesh.
Anyway, I set up a recording to start near the top of the hour and began watching another show on the same channel. About the time the show was supposed to start recording, the video paused briefly while 3 dots started pulsing on the screen. But it didn't stop entirely - the ending of the show continued. This was a Fire TV 4K with plenty of free space on a 480i channel. 4-tuner Recast.
Edit: I see now I should be watching a recording when a new recording starts. I'll test that next.
Just tested watching a 1080i recording while another 1080i recording started on another channel. No glitch apparent.
I'm having the exact same problem using the 4 tuner model and a 2nd gen fire stick and would also like to know when or, after all this time, should I say if this problem is going to be fixed. My old windows media center setup works better than this!
Add me to the list of users affected. Have had our 4 tuner Recast and 2nd Gen FireTV sticks for a couple weeks now and trying to teach the wife how to use everything. Since ATT came along, our DirecTV just doesn't meet our needs any longer and I am hoping the FireTV Recast setup is the answer. For the most part, things are going well but this one single issue keeps getting me the evil eye, followed by "HERE, YOU DO IT!".
It happens while viewing both live TV and recorded content. Sometimes it's just 3 dots but most of the time the result is a black screen. Backing out and then back in resumes the playback but when it happens multiple times a day, it gets pretty annoying and is NOT helping my case any with the wife in regards to "cutting the cord" anytime soon. I have checked and rechecked for updates, rebooted, power cycled, and just about everything else short of a factory reset but now that I knew what to look for, it is clear it happens when a scheduled recording fires up on the Recast.
Come on Amazon, push a fix for this will ya? I promise I will raise my spending limit on PPV movies via Amazon Prime Video when you do!
Any word on this issue. Having the same problem with the screen going dark while watching a recorded show when another recording starts. 4 timers, and only watching on 1 TV and just 1 recording starts.
If this can not be resolved before the product return window closes, it will be returned and continue to use the Channel Master DVR+.
UPDATE JULY 26, 2019
I have not heard anything from Amazon so far. What I have found though, If I use the remote and scroll over to DVR then down and start the play back, when another show starts recording, the play back stops and has to be restarted.
If I use the VOICE COMMAND "Show My Recordings" and then use the remote to select and start the program it seems to not exhibit the same stopping problem. At least it hasn't for me.
This still does not relieve Amazon of the responsibility of fixing the problem.
Yeah, latest firmware push was dated I think in Feb or March of this year and it would be nice if Amazon was at least on a quarterly update schedule. I can't believe they don't have some fixes to push out at this point.
As for this particular issue however, I haven't seen it in a while. I had another issue where I couldn't delete shows or able to start currently recording shows from the beginning, duplicate channel guide entries for Philo and a few others. So I did something just short of a factory reset so I could still keep any shows that had already recorded.
First, I deleted out all of my existing scheduled shows (doesn't delete shows already recorded), uninstalled my streaming apps, power cycled (not just restart) everything, double checked for any updates still out there for my Recast and sticks, then went thru and setup my recordings on the Recast again.
Not only did it clear up my issues with deleting or starting a show from the beginning but it also seems to have gotten rid of this issue as well as a couple others. I haven't had a single issue with anything in over 3 weeks now and at least for me, my Recast/FireTV setup all seems to be working just fine. (knocking REALLY hard on my wooden desk as I type this!). I certainly hope these types of steps aren't necessary every time there's an update, but for now, I am all good.
I know when I first got my Recast, I setup a half dozen or so test recordings right out of the gate to see how it worked and whether it would be a keeper before I made sure all the updates were installed on the Recast and my sticks when I probably should not have. Then having updates installed after that might have caused issues since doing the reset steps mentioned above has cleared it all up. Either that or it's just a big coincidence and my resident gremlins have moved on to bug someone else for a while!

That actually seems to work, but you're right that Amazon needs to fix the problem. I've found that if you accept a work-around, you'll never see a real fix, and pretty soon you're living with more work-arounds than you can keep track of.

Still having the issue occur. Has anyone had any luck with getting this fixed?
I received a notice from Amazon Support last Tuesday saying this problem would be fixed in the next software release. No date was given.
I have the same problem (4 tuner recast, 1 playback stream to a firetv stick) hope that Bryan C is correct and this is getting fixed. very annoying!

I have a 4 tuner recast and use a Fire Cube and Fire Stick and Fire Stick 4k. I get the issue with all.

4 months later and still not working. Any word on the delivery date for the fix?

Same issue here as well. Have a 4 tuner model, and happens on all of the fire clients connected

New recast here with the same flaw.

Glad I found this forum and that I'm not crazy and this problem is real. But super disappointed that Amazon still has not fixed it.
