Does anyone else have a problem of this sort? I am so frustrated and I expect no fix from Acorn TV.
Yes. Check out the low rated (e.g., one-star) reviews of the AcornTV app. A new version (0.63) of the app was released on 5 Feb 2019 and it immediately made the app inoperative for anyone using a direct (ethernet rather than WiFi) internet connection with their Fire TV device. Supposedly Acorn is working on the fix for this but so far after 11 days: no fix and no updates from their customer support. Yours is a different issue, it appears. Whether Acorn is working on that, or has fixed it in 0.63? Who knows?
I installed Acorn about a year ago but found the user interface so awful that I almost immediately canceled it. I tried again recently hoping they had fixed the problems, but NOOOOO!
First of all, the first full minute of anything is at a very low resolution and about 1 minute in, it snaps to HD. Smells like poor buffering to me. Then like everyone above, it just decides to shut down and when you finally get the Home screen back you have to navigate all the way to the show again because the damn thing can't remember what you were watching and queue it up for you like every other app.
I must say I have no faith in Acorn's ability to program an app for Fire TV. I will be disconnecting the service and even though I really like British TV, I'm not going back to this.
