My first time adding to this thread. I have the exact same problem. I spend time with Chat Support. They escalated the issue. But they had no resolution. I am glad to find this thread and to learn it is a know issue. I hope it will get truly resolved. They most recent Amazon response in this thread did not fix the issue.
You say you fixed it? But what device are we supposed to reset? I doubt it will work. Interestingly enough, after it unlinks, when you go to settings in the tv for Alexa to turn the tv on,that option is mysteriously set to "off" again. Is that why Alexa is saying "doesn-t support that"? Zach, please help us. Or a lot of people are going to be returning these tvs. You're going to lose a lot of money.
I've given up on this feature. Its too bad Amazon can't get a real fix for this issue. Hopefully one day but until then I can't fully recommend this TV over Roku (I happen to own one as well). To be honest I miss the simplistic layout of Roku.
So glad I found this post. I have been driving myself nuts. Same issue as all, 24” Insignia Fire Tv (1 week old) 1st Gen Echo. Both on same network SSID. tried changing from 2.4Ghz channel to 5 and back to 2.4. No change. Loses link randomly. Only fix is unlink and relink.
Getting my name in in hopes for support - same problem.
Onkyo rt- H494 AV receiver
Fire stick 4k
Ive tried firestick connection via Onkyo and TV. I am only able to get the firestick to work when the TV is on, and it wont allow any control of my ONKYO other than volume, no ON/OFF function of tv or receiver from echo dot commands. note - Adding the receiver and TV to the firestick added a total of 4 new entries in my devices, two of which i cannot delete, and none of which work via alexa commands. The echo links, and can do things like begin a video on netflix, but cannot switch inputs or turn TV ON/OFF
Fire stick 4k
This TV supposedly has alexa built in, but that didnt work for anything other than volume so I tried the firestick, again nothing works through echo linking other than volume
This TV will not take any commands through echo
All devices on the same network.
Amazon please fix this problem immediately, we all have too much money invested here to have this fall on deaf ears
Add me to the list of dissatisfied customers. I have the same problem. It works when you first connect but an hour later it says "Doesn't support that." Your advertising that it works with Alexa got me to buy the tv. Isn't that false advertising?
I can also confirm that the update didn't work. Checked for updates on both the Insignia fire TV as well as the Polk Command Bar (i.e. soundbar with echo dot integrated in). Updated the Polk Command Bar. Remained linked for the evening, then broken again in the morning.
Knock on wood, 3rd day in a row still linked and working. Since my tv never received an update I'll assume that the problem was on the echo end of things. A big thanks to the Amazon team for fixing a PITA. Also thanks to the many (in other threads as well) who complained bringing attention to this problem.
I confirmed! My Echo Dot has no longer disconnected from my Insignia FireTV Edition television since last I tried (Saturday March 16th)...I believe there was an update to the Alexa app earlier in the week....It was about time Amazon! Thank you!
fixed my problem. it was conflicting with the Harmony skill. check your scenes in the alexa app. harmony created scenes called “Fire TV”, which was conflicting with the command “Turn off Fire TV” for my Insignia Fire TV. Disabled the Harmony skill, deleted the scenes it created with Fire TV in the name... and now my Insignia Fire TV commands work!!! I can turn it on and off with Alexa. You can re-enable the harmony skill, just make sure it does not recreate a skill with a name Fire TV.
