I have had a fire tv stick for just over a month now. On average about once a week the stick loses connection to my Wifi and when I try to reconnect I get the message that my Wifi password is invalid. This is not correct as at the same time my laptop, phone and kindle were all connected to my Wifi using the exact same password. I have resolved this in the past by either getting the stick to forget the network or turning my stick off and on again. The issue has just happened again and this time I did not have the option to forget the network displayed on the screen. I tried connecting with the WPS but no joy. I tried restarting my stick, again no joy. I tried disconnecting my laptop and reconnecting with the exact same password as the stick and that worked fine. I then tried resetting both my stick and my router and again this did not solve the issue. I eventually did a full factory reset on my stick (annoying because I lost all my settings and apps) and when it eventually got round to connecting to my Wifi again lo and behold it once again would not connect. I walked away as I was getting frustrated and 10 mins later tried one more time and this time it did connect! I have seen many threads on here having this same issue but not once have I seen a response from anyone at Amazon. This is obviously some sort of software issue with their product so it would be nice if they sorted it out or at least responded as constantly having to factory reset the device is going to get extremely annoying and if it persists the only place this device will be going is the dustbin!
Just a thought. Have you replied yes to permit Amazon to save your password? I reply no and the Firestick remembers the password but it is not saved in the Amazon cloud environment. With 5 Firesticks, I have not had this issue.
Oh my gosh InjunJoe - I am getting frustrated myself at all of the people that are getting on you about various things from Amazon not knowing your password, etc. I am having the SAME problem. All of a sudden it stopped accepting my wifi password as well and said it was invalid when it's not. And like you I KNOW my password. LOL And I have been putting it in correctly and even had my husband try. NOTHING. I was on another help site yesterday and he had me restore my firestick to original settings. Did this and after spending the rest of the night downloading my apps again and putting in passwords, this morning nothing. Same problem, wifi password invalid. Did you ever get any solutions besides throwing the damn thing out and getting something else?
I switch between WIFI networks and the Firestick (both 4K and earlier) remember the password even when you ask Amazon not to save the password. When I turn off one of my WIFI network routers associated with a specific Firestick, it will ask me to select a new network and if the FireStick has not been on that network, it will ask for the password. With 5 firesticks that is the only time I get the password message.
My parents had same problem. Not sure if this dis the trick but after it worked. Hold the select and play button for 5 seconds to restart. After it restarts unplug the cable from device for 5 seconds and replug it in and once it restarted and entered password it worked.
Same problem here. Network was connected several days ago but now it's not. Repeated messages that password is invalid, but it works on all other devices in my house. It's sad to read the responses that are blowing this problem off as user error.
FIX. I encountered the issue if my Firestick not accepting my correct wifi password. I went into the settings and selected restart, works fine now. I would recommend trying this before the factory reset as you will have to reconnect all your accounts to the firestick if you factory reset.
My wife hit the same issue with the firestick she uses. Valid password was suddenly rejected by firestick while other systems work fine. Restarted the firestick and same password was suddenly acceptable. It appears from my router logs the firestick never attempted to validate until it was restarted. After that it cleanly connected and was allocated an ip. It will be interesting to see how long it goes without hitting this bug again.
What is the fix amazon? This isnt a consumer forgetting their password. And implying such is insulting
This is a customer to customer forum. No one from Amazon has posted here so Amazon is not implying anything. The fix would seem to be to restart the device. Did you read preceding posts? And anyone with any time in support would bet about 100 to 1 it *is* the user messing up their password because that is about the right ratio.
