Was there a bad update a few days ago? I have two FireSticks and a FireTV box. Up until a few days ago, I just pressed Home on my remote, the TV powered on, and opened to the Home screen. Now, I have to manually turn the TV on, and I see nothing but a black screen until I unplug the FireStick and plug it back in. Then it will work fine until the next day. Then I have to reboot it all over again to use it.
The female in the house will be very unhappy if she has to reach behind the TV and unplug and replug the device to use it.
I was having the same issue with my brand new fire stick 4K. Did all the usual troubleshooting things, power adapter, cables, different HDMI port and nothing would fix it. It would not wake up after it went to sleep. I had to pull the power every time to get it to work.
I gave Amazon support a shot at fixing it before I sent it back. Low and behold they were able to resolve the issue. The tech remotely un-registered the stick and had me power cycle it. When it came back up I had to authenticate once again with my Amazon creds and it now works as it should. I'm not sure if the tech pushed any kind of update to my device, nonetheless I now have a fully functional fire stick. It's worth a few minutes to jump on a text chat with a tech in any case.
I run an Airbnb and have a Firestick available to my guests. I also have a Firestick at my vacation home. I have 2 additional Firesticks as backups. They are Gen 2 and all of them have the "don't wake up" issue. Sometimes they will work for a day, or two, but eventually, they don't wake up. I (or my guests) have to up plug and re-plug the power to get them to wake up. Very frustrating. Who wants to stay at a Airbnb where you have to reach behind the 70" tv to unplug the Firestick. I purchased 2 at one time, and the other 2 another time. So, unlikely that it's just a bad batch. Please Amazon, take this seriously and fix it.
