Today, Amazon announced the Fire TV Stick 4K, the most powerful streaming media stick available, plus an all-new Alexa Voice Remote. The all-new Alexa Voice Remote is also available with the recently launched Fire TV Cube and can be purchased as a single remote.
Most powerful 4K stick, under $50 Over 80 percent more powerful than the best-selling Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K features a new quad core, 1.7GHz processor, delivering a fast streaming experience, quicker load times, and brilliant picture quality. Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K gives you access to the vast catalog of content currently available on Fire TV including thousands of 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ titles.
Brilliant 4K picture and immersive sound Fire TV Stick 4K is the first streaming media stick available with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Finding 4K content has never been easier on Fire TV—just say “Alexa, find 4K TV shows” or “Alexa, watch Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.” With a growing catalog of Dolby Atmos content, customers can also enjoy 3D surround sound when connected to compatible home audio systems.
Get all the content you love Fire TV Stick 4K also gives you access to tens of thousands of channels, apps, and Alexa skills, as well as over 500,000 movies and TV episodes on Fire TV. Enjoy favorites from Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, STARZ, SHOWTIME, CBS All Access, and others. With Firefox or Amazon Silk browsers, visit millions of websites like YouTube, Facebook, and Reddit. Listen to songs, playlists, live radio stations, and podcasts through services like Amazon Music, Spotify, and iHeartRadio.
More ways to watch live TV Fire TV Stick 4K gives you access to live TV whether it’s through streaming apps like Hulu and PlayStation Vue or through Prime Video Channels. You can also pair Fire TV Stick 4K with Fire TV Recast and a HDTV antenna to easily watch, record, and replay free over-the-air TV programming.
Enhanced in-app voice control Many of your favorite apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, SHOWTIME, and ESPN already have enhanced in-app voice controls on Fire TV. Today, we are announcing increased in-app voice control on new apps like A&E, AMC, Sony Crackle, Hallmark Movies Now, HBO Now, History, IFC, Lifetime, and VH1. Now, you’ll be able to use Alexa to play, rewind, fast forward, and navigate through content—all with your voice.
Far-field voice recognition Pair Fire TV Stick 4K with your favorite Echo device and Alexa will control your content hands-free using far-field voice recognition. Getting started is easy; if you have only one Fire TV, your Echo device will pair as soon as you ask Alexa a question that includes Fire TV, for example, “Alexa, show me comedies on Fire TV.”
Do more with the all-new Alexa Voice Remote Combining Bluetooth, multidirectional infrared technology, and powered by our cloud-based service, the all-new Alexa Voice Remote allows you to power on your compatible TV and AV equipment, switch inputs, or tune to a channel on your cable box—all with a single remote. Plus, the all-new Alexa Voice Remote gives you even more control with dedicated power, volume, and mute buttons, along with the ability to use voice commands to find and control content.
The all-new Alexa Voice Remote is compatible with tens of millions of Fire TV devices, including the latest generations of Fire TV streaming media players, and can control power and volume on tens of thousands of TVs, sound bars, and AV equipment. Equipment control works with: Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick (2nd Generation), Fire TV (3rd Generation).
It is not compatible with older Fire TV devices or Fire TV Edition TVs.
Glad to see, but I just purchased 4 of the current FireTV Stick. Is there a Upgrade program for those of us who have the Gen Below this one. I hate to keep selling these on ebay every time Amazon comes out with a Newer one.
It's awesome having a new device and I love the much-requested volume buttons and a power on/off button but keeping those aside why are you guys not listening to us with regard to the Amazon Alexa feature, we can understand that it might still be in beta or may not properly work with foreign accent but why is there no option to enabled it if required? I mean it's not hard to just change the country settings for us and try out the US edition but we would lose access to the primevideo subscription /apps which is kinda lame.
Please work on releasing Alexa app for the International market even if it has limited functionality that would be more awesome!

If you've had them less than 30 days, you can return them. Otherwise, just like most companies, if you buy something and a brand new wizzy wonder comes out a couple of months later. Nope, no trade up as a rule. That'd be called a "lease" really and can be had for loads of gear with a price that will cover the cost of that. ;)

Nice improvement to the existing Fire Stick. Still not As good as the 2nd gen Fire TV though (or the 3rd gen Fire TV which it is replacing too - that had 33% more RAM). I don't mind consolidating on the "stick" format but I hope they don't dumb it down in favor of planned obsolescence.

Maybe I've missed it but I've searched in numerous places and I can't seem to find, what is the on board RAM? Fire Stick 1's problem was slowness due to only 2Gb RAM.
not clear on the backward compatibility. currently have an older 1080 hi def tv and a/v receiver (dolby) but will be getting a 4k tv later this year. is the fire tv stick 4k compatible with my current system?

Hi rms777,
welcome! Yes, the Fire TV Stick 4K is backwards-compatible for both audio and video, but obviously would put out 1080p video instead of 4K.
I hope this helps, let us know how you like it when you get that new 4K TV!
My new Amazon FireTvStick 4K just arrived, the first of its kind I have bought. But, HELP, how in God's name do you open the remote to insert the batteries!!!

Have a new firestick 4k, but cannot get dolby atmos sound. I have the firestick connect to a marantz sr7012 and have atmos speaker setup 5.4.2. When in the netflix app it only shows 5.1 available?
I don't have the new stick but I know on the stick I got on christmas had the instructions on how to open the remote on the clear plastic cover the remote came in. Carefully search every scrap of packing material.
I have the new remote. I cannot figure out how to manually program the volume. It found my tv, so the power button and volume control the tv. However, I want the volume to control the sound bar.
I have searched everywhere. Cannot figure out how to program buttons.
