I had this same issue. The power button on the remote worked, but no others. Unplugged the power cord from the back of the tv. Waited 30 seconds, then plugged it back in. Voila! After the tv booted up, the remote was, once again, fully functional.
Just remember that each Television manufacturer licenses the Amazon app and modifies that app to work with their hardware. I have found that my ViZio Fire TV is so brain dead that I am using the firestick to have the full Amazon Fire capability. In addition to not supporting the DVR capability via Amazon's Recast Box, other features of the interface are just different enough or lack capabilities that I do not use it at all. Amazon is not responsible for updates to the Television firmware and emails to Toshiba should be the vehicle to get resolution on this topic.
I have a possible solution that worked for me. We bought our Insignia Fire TV Edition last Saturday and 2 Days Later the Alexa voice control button and the home button stopped working. I called Insignia and Insignia put me through to Amazon and neither one were able to help me. So this is what I did. I go to settings. Go over to controllers and Bluetooth devices. I have parental controls turned on so I had to imput my PIN number. Click on the Amazon Fire TV remotes and on the right side it will say type- voice remote it will also say battery and version and serial number. Well on this screen hold down your Alexa voice control button and the blue light that runs across the top to show it has been activated should show up. Now for the home screen button to be reactivated I turn my TV off then on again. When it comes back on it shows that it's loading and when those three dots are scrolling across the screen I pressed and held the home screen button until the next menu screen came up and that seemed to work for us. I hope this helps
By reading this forum, you can see that there are many Toshiba Fire television issues and the fault is most likely with the Toshiba implementation of the Amazon APIs. My Vizio Fire television is so far behind the Firestick I do not use that feature and I utilize FireSticks on all of my Fire televisions to avoid these issues. It is less than $50 and saves a lot of headaches for me.
I have a Toshiba Fire TV and came here because I had the same issue as most have mentioned. The only button on my remote that was working was the power button. I could turn the tv on and off but that was it. I thought I was doomed because I didn’t find a solution here that worked for my issue. And then I read the steps on my google search page for pairing the remote. What worked for me is holding down the Select button for 5 seconds. For those unsure that is the round button in the center of the directional buttons. I got a prompt on screen that the remote was paired and full functionality to all buttons was restored. Not sure how it got unpaired. I was rocking with the standard cheap batteries that came with the remote. Maybe when they lost power the remote became disconnected? Or maybe there is an issue with the tv software that disrupts the connection between remote and tv. Hopefully other will be able to read this and save themselves the headache with 5 seconds of a button press!
I am having the same issue where I can turn the tv on with no issues. Blank screen. Tried unplugging and holding buttons on remote nothing. How do you reset if yuh can’t even get to the menu? Just bought on Sunday and was working fine until tonight. Thinking of returning unless anyone has a solution on how to reset tv to get to anything. App won’t work because I can’t see code sent to tv!
