Having exact same issue on my Firestick. Can get to the calibrate option, but it won’t let me adjust it. On my 4K Firestick, I fixed this easily. And on the LG TV, I have tried all of the scaling options, but none will make the screen fit. Why won’t Amazon fix the calibrating option on this Firestick to work like the older and newer models? Ridiculous if you ask me.
I have this issue as well with 2nd gen Firestick. You’d think they would have fixed by now. Like someone said I guess they just don’t care. My tv is a LG plasma bought back in 2006 but still running strong. I just don’t see the point of buying a new tv just fir this issue.
I personally have not found a TV that I could not calibrate the display, either with the up and down arrows, or the TV adjustments, and I have done many TV brands, new and old.
The only one that I was not able to tweak the display to get the tips at the very edge was my brothers older older Plasma by Panasonic. Once he put the FireTV Pendant (Dongle) on it, and with an update awhile back, even his was brought into the tips of the arrows.
Although calibrating the display is pretty much resolved from the Amazon remote or the TV settings, I am sure that there are older TV's out there that are an exception, as I am sure that Amazon has not tested every single TV set ever manufactured, by every company out there.
Just found this thread, bought a firestick 2 weeks ago at target. Haven't been able to calibrate the screen display on the firestick, the edges are cut off and no it's not fixable from the tv. It's the firestick, tried and 3 different tv's (brands and sizes) and it's no use. Unfortunately I lost the receipt and so I guess I'm stuck with this thing. Should of bought a roku instead like I originally planned.
In my case the settings say use the TVs overscanning option. Sorry my 2009 Mitsubishi TV does not have such an option. Only the 2nd Gen firestick has this problem. Dvd player, directv box, ota antenna all display properly. Needs to be added back.
Even a 10 year old TV should have a zoom, mode, picture size, etc., etc... this is what you would use.
Press the "Format" button on either the remote control or the front panel of the unit to adjust the picture size. Choices include "Standard", "Stretch", "Expand", and (with CRT models) "HD expand." Keep pressing until you find the optimal picture setting for that source. The last setting you choose will be saved and the picture will be displayed in that manner the next time you view that source.
Same problem as others. I have an older Vizio TV. I am not zoomed in, but there is no way to disable overscan on my model TV. So while technically, my TV may be scaling the picture , I have no way to change it. This fire stick is useless to me because it won't let me scale the picture. If I have to get another TV it will likely not need a fire stick. Seems like a big miss on Amazon's part.
Same issue. Have a 4K stick which was fin, fitted the screen on the TV it is connected to fine with no scaling required, but checked that it would scale if required (using the calibration on the firestick) and it could be calibrated. Have another firestick (2nd gen with Alexa) on another TV (old Panasonic Viera) ends of the arrows are chopped off on screen and no calibration on the firestick - it just says to change the screen adjustments on the LCD). When I change the aspect on the TV the shape of the picture changes - as you would expect - zoom in or black bars at the sides, depending on the aspect chosen. Even when an aspect is chosen where there are black bars, it is just the shape of the picture which changes. The grey arrrows are still chopped off at the same place e.g. switching from auto to 16:9 to 14:9 - no way of actually getting the picture from the firestick to fit exactly. (I had also checked that magnification definitely hadn't been switched on on the firestick). Feel the Firestick definitely needs a firmware update with the calibration facility added back to it.
As mentioned in previous posts, I don't remember where Amazon guarantees that every old TV ever made in the world will be able to come into display calibration with there FireTV 4K device. However, I have only come across an old Panasonic Plasma that would not, and that one even did after an upgrade to the FireTV Pendant.
To my knowledge, FireTV older sticks are not the specs or firmware of a new FireTV 4K Stick.
Curious, what does the new FireTV 4K Stick do when you put that on the old Panasonic?
@Oneacer__I have a Matsui M37LW508 and it does not let me adjust the HDMI picture/display settings. So I am unable to calibrate the display correctly... seems you have been suggesting all older TVs can work. Do you have answer for this one?
