Well I had the same problems with my firestick since I got an email from Amazon that told me they will not support my Sony TV any longer - I had a direct access to Prime Video through my TV menu. So of course I ordered the firestick and had nothing but problems - exactly what I have read here. Good Wifi reception but it kept dropping the internet. I tried EVERY suggestion - used the Amazon firestick extender (the one that came with it), moved my router/modem closer to the TV - no obstructions. Rebooted I don't know how many times. Could watch Amazon Prime for maybe 30 minutes and then again, lost internet connection. Well... reading something online - I went and ordered the html extension cord - I got only the 3 feet (all I need) though it comes in different lengths. and IT WORKED!!! Amazon must know there is a problem with the firestick being close to the TV - why did they include that 2 inch extender which is a joke - did absolutely zero.
This is what I bought:
AmazonBasics High-Speed Male to Female HDMI Extension Cable - 3 Feet
I was having issues with firesticks constantly dropping connection every hour or two, would have to reboot and it would work fine for about an hour and then the cycle would repeat. Every other device connected to wifi was fine. I solved the issue by turning off the 5ghz band on my router, now all devices are connected to 2.4 ghz and i havent lost connection once in the past week.
Firesticks may be sensitive to too many devices on the same channel in one area? If you dont want to lose the apeed of 5ghz the problem might be solved by changing to another one of the 15 channels in that band?
We've been having the same issue - we've only had our Fire Stick for about two months. It worked great for a while and now we turn is on, start watching and 15 minutes later is loses the connection. So we restart, check the internet (and we have a brand new router, an internet extender and we're using everything that came with the Fire Stick) and try to start watching again. It's getting really annoying to have to restart it all the time. If we we're trying out Sling I wouldn't care, but I'm too to point that it's not worth it if we have to keep doing this. I'm guessing that Amazon doesn't look at the forums and doesn't have very good help in their support section. And I was so excited about getting a Fire Stick...
Seems we all are having this issue. Frequently in the past month. Mine is not overheating, it is on for maybe 20 min and it loses signal and goes to the black screen to set up connection. I go to My FIRE TV in settings and restart it daily just to be able to watch tv . I think it is a missing update needed to by pass this with the Windows 10 update.
