+1 on the issue, bitstreaming Dolby Digital+ to my Denon receiver results in intermittent audio dropouts, video continues uninterrupted during the dropout, so it's not an internet connection issue.
Same issue here. I have 4 of these new sticks. all have the issue. Doesn't matter if you reset the device to factory, use 2.4 vs 5ghz. menu sounds on or off, audio to auto or dobly or dobly + or stereo. issue always returns.
We are also having audio drop outs with a new Firetv 4K stick. Plays for ten or fifteen minutes(maybe) then video with no sound. This instance watching Outlander with Starz app purchased through Amazon. Have ACR HDMI on the television, hooked the optical digital audio up to the receiver just because I had it(and switched the firetv setting to look to the optical port on the receiver for sound), have moved the cables amongst the four ports this tv provides and same results. Not happy. The damn thing is unplugged right now and the tv and receiver work fine with the signal from an over the air antenna!
Just want to add my name as another affected user. It’s happening on all apps. My first stick it was every five minutes but I returned that and bought two more and they are about once every forty minutes. Needs addressing.
Same issue here. If you are within your 30-day return period you should definitely return it for an exchange. I've read reports online that not all of the Sticks are doing this, so try a different one. They just refused to exchange mine because I'm out of the 30-day window.
Amazon have delivered a really good device in such a small device with the exception of the Audio, as everyone has previously mentioned.
The stick boasts Dolby Atmos + Dolby Vision and since no TV is really going to deliver a full Atmos experience the only viable route is through an AV receiver. So to the original advice of trying of changing the audio to Dolby off - even if this did work (which it doesn't) it defeats the purpose of many buying this stick.
Just to be clear factory resets don't fix the problem.
Reboots don't fix the problem.
No firmware upgrade to date has fixed the problem.
Changing the audio settings does not fix the problem.
Changing wifi from 2.4 to 5g and vice versa does not fix the problem.
So to the Amazon Staff please email the relevant team to highlight the fact that this annoying problem is still present on Fire TV stick 4k whilst still being promoted and sold to unsuspecting customers.
To others with this problem, I'd urge you to post a message here to show Amazon just how many of us are experiencing this problem.
It seems these audio dropouts have been reported for years. I'd be surprised if no one has found a solution in the huge threads over at avsforum. I haven't noticed the problem. I'm plugged into a Yamaha receiver that does NOT have Atmos. I have audio set to Best Available.
I'm not sure why you'd need to set it to Dolby Digital Plus. Shouldn't Best Available take care of that? Confusing at best.
I am having the same problem. No matter what app we are using... Hulu, CW, NBC ect. Out of nowhere the sound will randomly cut in and out. Sometimes for just a second or two but other time it will be for longer. We have a gen 2 stick and I have done all the resets and setting the Dolby Plus to off. I have swapped HDMI ports, made sure the power was plugged into the outlet and not a USB port, we even purchased the Ethernet adapter so we could hard wire the network to make sure it wasn't bad WIFI (even though we were getting 40+ mbs on our speed test). Nothing seems to help and it will happen out of nowhere. It will be working fine and then bam. There is not trouble with the video and its not buffering.
Hi, first and foremost I had all the same issues of the sound going in and out I read about 50 of these issues all seemed about the same. So what Iam about to say some people can do or can. The Firestick w/Alexa is the one I have to be specific I purshased it in Dec 2018. 1. All you have to do to fix issue is give the Firestick a better t.v. The profile and strength of the Firestick is too great for a lot of older model t.v.’s point black. I was using an older model RCA flat screen that I noticed when I watched one movie it wouldn’t be as bad but once the the area where the Firestick was mounted got hot all the sound glitching began. I believe strongly the port in my older model has a slow processor and the signals get distorted from the heat. Or as one poster suggested use a different HDMI port. Fortunately I had another t.v that was newer and I have no problems. I wish that this helps all of you.
Wow, I have the same issue with audio cutting in and out across all apps(Netflix, Hulu, PS Vue). 4K TV is Only 1 years old. Set up is as follows: Fire Stick(4k model less then 1 year old), plug in to 4K TV with HDMI cable plugged in to ARC HDMI port to Brand new Receiver. What make matters worse is whatever is happening is affecting the PS Vue app, causing the video to stop and go. At some points where it is unwatchable! Been trying everything to solve this problem with no solution in sight. IT IS DRIVE ME INSANE! There has to be a fix somewhere out there!?
Hi, I'm also having same problem. I only bought the TV stick in November 2018 but already on 2nd replacement. Same problem is happenibg with all of the devices across all apps. Amazon customer service seem to be unaware of any issue but reading on this forum it is obviously a huge problem that they need to resolve. I was doubting whether my WiFi or TV were up to the job but as it is affecting so many people it must be to do with the actual device. As someone else posted, Amazon are in denial about this. It's very frustrating and has put me off the prime TV service. I think I'll go back to Sky....
So update on my post #37. Today I unplugged my receiver from the system. So it is just my fire stick and my tv. Also, in the process of this I had to Factory reset my tv. I have had no issues so far today. Not sure if it has something to do with the receiver or the fact that I had reset my tv. Tomorrow I will be reconnecting it back to the receiver because I love having the surround sound and everything else runs through it. So will update on that tomorrow.
Okay, update on #37 & #40. Everything hooked back you through receive and so far so good! On another note, I did change out my older HDMI 1.4 cable for a HDMI high speed ethernet cable. So, now I'm not sure if it is the new HDMI cable or if Factory Resetting the TV has fixed my issue. So to recap on my set up:
Vizio 4k TV with Fire Stick plugged into HDMI 5 port
HDMI high speed ethernet cable plugged into HDMI ARC port on TV and Receiver.
Receiver has Bluray player and PS4 systems running through it.
All sound runs through Receiver.
All I changed was Factory Reset TV and changed out HDMI cable for newer cable. Now everything is working properly. HOPEFULLY THIS HELP SOMEONE, BECAUSE IT WAS DRIVING ME NUTS!
