Is it possible to take a regular fire tablet and turn it into a kid friendly version ?
I want to get a new unit for myself and give my fire7 to my kids .
The Kids Edition Fires sold by Amazon are regular fire tablets with the FreeTime app already installed, a kid friendly case, 2 year warranty, and a subscription to FreeTime Unlimited. The FreeTime app is designed for children between ages 3-12 and is included on every Fire. The Fire is still registered to the adult Amazon account and still has the adult profile on it, so if you don't already have one you'll create a device Lock Screen PIN or password to prevent the kids from accessing the adult profiles on the tablet once you download the FreeTime app.
Because it's registered to your account notifications about purchases will still be sent to the adult profile. If the Fire is kept on the child profile when it's put in sleep mode or turned off the kids won't see them. Not sure there's enough memory on older Fire 7s to handle a subscription to FreeTime Unlimited if the tablet is used by more than one child.
If you don't already use Parental Controls on the adult profile to prevent accidental purchases, you can set them up to let older children use the adult profile.
