My kindle fire was fine yesterday, but this morning it was stuck on the Fire startup page with 3 dots like it was updating or restarting. It never started so I've tried rebooting it by holding down the power and volume buttons to turn it off then doing the same for it to restart. It's now stuck in Fastboot mode. I've tried turning it off and back on several times but it's still stuck in fastboot mode. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
the same thing happened to me, i charged it while at work thursday and it has not gotten off the fire screen since then, wont charge because it is stuck on that screen, i have to hold down power button just to turn it off, i have tried rebooting it twice with no success
Same problem here. I’ve tried holding power button for 40 seconds 4x and every time it turns on I get the Amazon sign then the fire startup page with the 3 dots and that’s where it stays. Can’t get it to go no further and I’ve been working on it for over 2hrs. Anybody have a solution??
I have the same problem got my Kindle in December as a christmas gift and now it won't charge. tried the reboot and still get the same thing. I even tried calling customer service she said my warranty expired in march only get a 90 day warranty unless you buy the extended one the best they could do is give me a discount on buying a new kindle. I think that's terrible I have a brand new almost hardly used device and they won't replace it they will just give me a discount on buying another device. Why would I want to spend more money and possibly have the same problem in a few months. She did say the HD 8 is the older model and they have a lot of people having the same issue. So I wonder is this there way of getting people to buy the new one make the old one crash and not replace it make you buy a new HD 7. I am trying to find a way of sending a email complaint since the girl on the phone couldn't do anything for me.
So I got it fixed thanks to their chat support. Of course the info in the window vanished when their person logged off, but here's what I remember.
Plug kindle into computer.
Manually download the software update onto desktop.
Hold down power button until it turns off.
Then hold down Power and Volume Up (NOT DOWN!!! VOLUME UP) Should go into recovery mode. (Will say that in lower corner, where the "Fastboot mode" message was.
Use volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset". Note that it is a factory restore, so it erases everything.
Hit Power button and release. (It functions as "enter" button)
Kindle will reboot
Scroll to "erase everything and reset" (or some such thing). Hit power button.
It should reboot- give it a few minutes, but the Fire screen will come up, with no message. At that point, it should be restored to factory settings. Then you have to do everything like it's brand new.
Then you should be good to go! Good luck! If you're afraid to follow my instructions, go to chat help and they should be able to walk you through it. Takes 10-15 minutes, if you use the link Ann posted.
