White square in notification bar cannot be removed by swiping like other notifications.
Hi Vdml, Welcome to our Digital and Device Forum!

Exact same issue, also on an HD 10 (7th Generation). At some point, a blank, white, square icon will shop up in the Notifications area; when I expand the Notifications, it's just as shown in the screen-shot from @REA-2: a white field with no information in it whatsoever, and it cannot be eliminated by swiping left...nor will it open an app when tapped. After cycling power, the blank icon will be gone, but, it will appear at some point, apparently at random. At this point, the only troubleshooting method that suggests itself to me is to go through the Apps list and shut down all notifications, and then see if the mystery icon re-appears; assuming it doesn't, I'll turn on Notifications, app by app, and see what happens.
It was driving me crazy as well (HD 8 5th generation). I rebooted a couple times, it came back. This time I tapped and held on the white square itself. It is prime vide at least for me! I turned off prime video notification and white square disappeared . Hope this helps someone else.
There are reports going back a while for apps causing blank notification in Android. Also, the white square icon occurs when it does not know the icon to display for the app, or the one the app is using is not compatible with the older version of Android. If you press and hold the notification does it bring up the notification settings screen for an app? It should. From there you will be able to disable notifications for the problematic app and/or force stop the app.
