I had to reset my 7", 2012, Kindle Fire tablet back to the default settings. However, when I did this, I noticed the padlock symbol that used to be next to the Wi_fi bars on the top right of the screen was gone now.
When I go to websites, it shows a padlock in the address bar so I'm guessing the website is secure, but I am worried that my Tablet may not actually be.
What does that symbol mean? Do I need it? And if so, how do I get it back?
The padlock symbol indicates that parental controls are enabled. Resetting the tablet removes the controls. Go into Settings and look for the Parental Control option, set a password, and re-enable whatever restrictions you had.
