my 5 yr old's fire kids edition was running slow. So I checked his storage and deleted some games that he plays, and also checked apps & games running under my setting. it was there I was concern to find 3 items running on my kids profile. one was Amazon Freetime Detective Services, that said it was started by the app, I assume Freetime app, but I may be wrong, it had been running for well over 4 hrs. So then I got suspious so I did a factory reset, using my backup to see if it would go away. Keep in mind my Alexa on my tablet is turned off and wifi is turned off. It was still there and running, so then I did another factor reset and did not choose backup. It erased the games and we had to reload, but when I then went and checked storage, then apps & games, under my profile, the picked running, under my kids profile there it was again, Amazon Freestime Detective Services, but another item is running that I am wondering what it is. It shows a ?, as symbol, called help, when clicked it is called, SDCSmessage listener services. and it says it has been running since I turned on the tablet.
Also I find that the Amazon freetime detective services stated only when my kids profile is open and games are played, it then does not turn off, until you shut the device off.
So are these two items running spying on me or a danger to my child? is there a way to stop them?
Oh, and my kiddo, does not have a subscription to Freetime, we used it for the free year, but declined purchasing it after. Thanks, concerned mom.

I have a Kids Edition tablet. Couldn't find an app by that name in the adult or child settings, running or not.
so I took some screen shots of the two that are running. we have had his kids fire tablet now 4 almost 5 years, and I have never seen these before either. it is only operating when my kids logs in. If I use it in my log in it does not run. and if you look at the pictures it has run non-stop, currently 16=hrs, which means when it was in sleep mode, which was from the minute my son, who is 5 is logged into Kids area of tablet,so yesterday morning.
while I do not care if I get watched, I expect it in this age of Alexa and other products that listen to us. I blocked Alexa.
it is only is running when my son is playing his kindergarten games.
I was able to stop the listener services, but it comes back, Everytime my kids relogs in.
Found it. I think FreeTime Detective services might have something to do with the Parent Dashboard and spying on your kids for you. They probably also use it to keep track of what content is being used in FreeTime Unlimited for the content providers in a general way. They've recently added FreeTime to Echo Dots for kids whose parents agree to let Alexa record them.
Some of the apps for young children, Disney ones for example, ask the child to say their name or take a picture to add to a story. That could be what the listener service is for. Not thrilled with the idea of a three-year-old doing any of that so the first thing I did when I set up the tablets was tape over the cameras and microphone before putting them back in their cases. Alexa is disabled in child profiles, but it is still running even if you've never enabled it unless you go into settings and use Force Stop after you put the tablet in airplane mode. It starts up again as soon as you connect to Wi-Fi.
L. Anderson, instead of doing the factory reset, when you're in "Running" & tap the icon to get more info on what it is, have you ever tried then tapping "Stop" (if it's something you don't want & don't care about the warning " ….. may cause the app to fail.")? In some cases, I can only hope it will. I did it a few days ago on Alexa & she hasn't shown up anywhere since. Seems to have improved the battery charge a bit too.
