Fire for Kids, usb port failed 19 months in so Amazon gave a replacement (refurbed - not happy about that). Now, four months in the usb port has failed on the replacement and Amazon say tough, warranty has expired.
Search the internet and you will see that it appears to be/was an epidemic with these tablets.
My only option is to buy another but does anyone know if this issue has been addressed now?
Take a good look at any USB port on a tablet. That tongue of metal is only a couple of millimeters thick. Even if it was tempered steel it would be no match for a few good yanks and kids are *really* good at yanking things.

I have two 2012 Fires and a 2017 Fire and neither of them have ever had any problems. And I don't see very many reports of it on this forum any more. Plus I have 7 Kindles which have the same kind of port (one is from 2010) and they're all still fine.
That said, I have to admit that I'm female and tend to always handle plugs and connections very carefully (electricity scares me). I let my husband plug my current Fire in once to charge it for me, and I have never done so since. He didn't check to make sure it was being plugged in right side up and he just jammed it into the socket. I always insert the plug gently.
No it has not been fixed I own 4 Kindle Fire HD 7th generation tablets no I have never yanked pulled or anything else . I called customer service they managed to lose all of my game and data that contained in App purchases I had 3 percent battery left at the time I have taken it to three different places to see if it can be fixed not going to happen why Amazon builds these tablets in a way that makes it impossible to repair fortunately I bought a two year warranty however I have lost all of my data and will never get it back I would suggest that if you are going to buy another tablet go online to see what else is out there I would stay away from Apple they do not offer SD ports. Hind site is 20/20 if I had known what I know now I would have bought one but am stuck with them for now .
