I've got a Fire HD8 which we use as an interface with the Alexa app running in Show Mode and I've got a problem where when we play music via Amazon Music, it keeps pausing (can get it going again by saying "Alexa continue") but it only does this when we have the tablet playing through our sound system via the headphone socket.
I've tried moving the tablet to different locations and I'm pretty sure it's not a buffering/wi-fi signal issue as it doesn't happen when playing music through teh tablets speakers (unless by plugging into the headphone socket it's causing interference with the wi-fi).
The same thing happens when listening to radio stations in the same way. Doesn't seem to be any particular track that causes it.
I'm using a standard 3.5mm jack extension cable, going to a splitter so I can then plug into the RF AUX inputs in the sound system

Hi Glosh!
I'm so sorry this is happening! I just have some quick clarifying questions to help me get more information from you so one of our Forum Pros or regulars or myself can assist you further. DO you noticing it pausing when there is movement in front of the Fire in Show mode, as in, someone walking by the front of it? Thanks in advance for answering so myself or a peer can try and help further!
Also, welcome to the digital and device forums! Usually a peer or fellow customer has an amazing answer on here for any and all kinds of issues, so you're certainly in the right place for advice and guidance!

Just tried and no, doesn't seem to be related to movement.
As an example, I tested with playing George Ezra Paradise from My Music - with the lyrics displaying on the screen. With plugged into the sound system it paused every 20 seconds or so (haven't actually timed it) with me sitting still across the room from it. After unplugging, it played continuously. Plugged it in, and it paused again within 5 seconds.
I also tried it with playing radio 2 which seemed slightly less problematic (no music, lots of talking) it paused only twice and on one occasion restarted itself after a few seconds (shows a solid moving line when playing - shows a dashed line when paused, if that makes sense).
I also tried walking around in front of it and there didn't seem to be any correlation with it pausing.
On the off-chance that the tablet was going into sleep-mode or something if it thought that there was no-one nearby, I stood in front of it and waved my arms around like Mr Tickle in a hurricane... didn't change the behaviour - although my wife looks at me a bit funny now...
Great troubleshooting! With everything you've done I believe you've narrowed it down to being an issue with the playback from the jack through the speakers. But we can try a couple of things. First, put the Fire on the charger for 3 to 4 hours. Then, try pressing and holding the Power button for 40 slow seconds, release it for 3 seconds, then press it again to start your Fire. After that is completed, let's check all connections for the external speakers, including the splitter. Also, when was the Fire purchased? Sorry for more troubleshooting and questions! Trying to solve this mystery for us!

The Fire reset did not improve things so I tried plugging in a set of headphones and there were no problems at all.
Then I plugged in the 3mm extension cable on it's own with nothing plugged in the other end - obviously no sound output but I could see the lyrics scrolling down and it started pausing again.
I guess that suggests it's a problem with the cable. I don't have another one to hand at the moment to test it but I;ll try and get hold of one in the next few days.
The Fire was bought around 3 weeks ago and was updated to the latest os at that time (haven't checked for further updates since though).
Just tried it with a brand new cable (different brand and supplier).....and exactly the same thing is happening.
Music keeps pausing with the cable plugged into the Fire HD, both with the cable plugged into the sound system via the splitter and with it not plugged into the sound system.
Now I guess it's possible for both cables to be faulty, but it seems unlikely.
I've checked again and the headphones are still working without a problem.
I believe the jack detects the presence of a cable, and a bad connection might cause it to pause/unpause.
Try to wiggle the jack and see if it makes the problem better or worse.
If the case is like my kids Fires then it is pretty easy to pop open. The jack might require som TLC. But if it is 3 weeks old, I would simply get a replacement from Amazon, they are pretty good about these kind of things.
Wiggling the jack maaaybe made it worse, although it's hard to tell as there's no real regularity to the pausing.
Have to admit I'm leaning towards a return and replace on this, but it just seems odd that it works fine with headphones - maybe there's a dry joint in there and the headphone cable has less resistance.
The lack of regularity/predictability between pause instances (sometimes it's a few seconds, sometimes it's 20ish) suggests it's less likely to be software too.
Will give a it a few more days to see if there are any other suggestions then I suspect a return is in the offing.
Yes, don't waste your time. There can be dimensional differences with the plugs that makes some more prone to failure than others. Just have the unit replaced. Hopefully that will fix it. If it doesn't fix it, the next step apparently depends on your standing with Amazon. If you are an Amazon Prime customer I have heard from reputable sources that Amazon will send a Shaman and a Mariachi band to your home to drive out the evil spirits.

Thanks Thorium, I'll give it a go.
Doesn't explain why it has no problems with headphones though.

Final nail in the coffin for this one.
Just tried it with a set of standard PC speakers, no extension cables, just plugged the stereo jack straight into the headphone socket on the tablet.
Played for 20 seconds or so then started pausing again.
So - time for a return.
Cheers,
Mark
