I have spent a tremendous amount of time trying to transfer minecraft files from my child's account on the 7th generation HD 8 to a new 8th generation HD 8. The issue lies with the file access to the child's account. I have tried as many methods as I can think of, but none of them get the files accessible by the KID's account.
I went into the kid's 7th generation (the old one) and found where she has all of her minecraft files stored (games/com.mojang). I copied all 1.05 gb of those files onto my PC. I then started the 8th generation from factory settings, logged in with my profile, then logged in with the kid's profile. I then started minecraft in the kids profile and saved a world. This trick has always worked to find "where" the correct file path should be. After this is where the problems first occurred:
With all of these attempts, I had to be logged into my profile while connected to the PC. If I was in the kid profile, the kindle fire turned to "usb charging" mode only, and there was no way to switch it in the kids profile (I had to head back to my profile).
First, I tried it with "SD as internal storage". On the PC, it gave me a file structure, but no games folder. I thought, no matter, I copied the files on the Fire 8th generation anyway. When I went to the kid's minecraft, her worlds weren't there. I looked at minecraft in my profile and all the worlds showed up on my profile. (this will be a recurring theme).
I then restarted from factory settings (again, this will be a recurring theme), logged into my profile, then started hers, did minecraft on her profile, saved a world, etc.. I instead used the SD as portable storage. It was even worse this time. The external storage was the only on the computer recognized. The 7th generation has "internal storage" and "storage device" as the two folders. There was no data on the SD storage and there is no way to have the files transferred to the SD card on 8th generation kindles like there was on the 7th generation one. In addition, I can't do anything with files while I'm in the kids profile (I can delete them, that's it), and when I'm in the adult profile, same thing. I saved the files to the SD card and again, they just showed up on my profile, not hers.
Third try, factory settings, profiles, minecraft, etc. I then went into the docs app and was thinking of using that "send to kindle" option. Again, only accessible through adult account. I can't share it with the child account to transfer files.
Fourth try, saving it to an SD, then adding it to the kindle. Similar results.
Fifth try, I downloaded the app2SD app. The wall between the kids account and adult account is still there.
Sixth try, I used dropbox and saved one world there as a test. The files are there, but the "save to device" option is grayed out, presumably because the kids account is fully locked from doing anything with files.
Long story short. PLEASE give file access to kids profile on 8th and higher generation kindles in some form or fashion. Or, even better, get Minecraft to save worlds to the gamecircle backup and make it easily accessible for all devices.
Does anyone have any luck with minecraft files being added to the 8th generation kindle fire HD? If so PLEASE SHARE!!
Same problem here, we had a failing 7th gen that I was able to back up content from. Amazon replaced it with an 8th gen, but I can now find no way to get access to a kids profile in USB, so I have no way to copy those files back on.
On the 7th gen one I could mount the tablet to USB in the parent profile, and then switch over to the child profile. That trick doesn't work on the 8th gen anymore.
