I’ve also been having this same issue on my daughter’s kindle. I’m glad to see that it’s not just hers that is having this issue. I have found that you do not have to restart the device. In freetime, you can just swipe down to make the settings appear and tap the gear icon at the top and it automatically resets freetime. I would like to see what the fix for this is though.
Same thing happing to both my kids! Shutting it down is not that big of a deal for me but when kids have it they get super sad! Need a fix ASAP! Was going to upgrade one of my older models but not with this problem!:( my kids love this tablet
All of our tablets are doing this as well on free time. Since this is happening to many people....Its obviously a bug somewhere within the latest software that simply is going to need to be debugged. So basically we just have to wait :/
Same thing occurring on both of my children’s new HD10’s FreeTime acts for the past two weeks. Just updated both to the newest version hoping that would fix it, but nada.
I couldn’t figure it out either and just have been re-booting it(this is coming from a Software Engineer myself).
My kids(6&7) became so annoyed with it they figured out an easier way themselves(which is the kind of the same thing as another poster mentioned) where on their own FreeTime acct they: Swipe Down > select Storage > wait for everything to populate > are then able to return to the Home Screen without rebooting...

My 6 year old triplets each have a fire 8 tablet and they are all getting this error all the time sporadically. It doesn’t matter which app they’re it. It just pops up. Restarting is the only way to unlock it and then it’ll just do it again. We’ve had fire tablets for 3 years (precious generation before we got the 8s earlier this year) and this has never happened. We are on the most recent software 22.214.171.124. Installed 11/9. IT IS DRIVING ME ABSOLUTELY MAD!!!!!!
Same thing happening here on both of my HD 8 tablets on Freetime. Seems like this has started happening since the last Freetime update. I'm having to restart the tablets 3 or 5 times a day. Super annoying. Please fix this ASAP!
I just got off with customer service. The answer was first my freetime expired (it did not) then restart it (I've done it 6 times) and then, of course: factory reset. Doesnt make sense because 2 out of 3 profiles on one device work. Issue ever since the updates, and customer service said there is no issue. So frustrating. Just acknowledge the problem and fix it.
Having received the run around from your customer service dept, can you please just admit that their is an issues and stop giving us a scripted answer. Obviously there is a software issue, and a simple Google search will immediately illustrate this. As paying customers we deserve a better response to this that the typical cookie cutter excuse. At a minimum issue out a message that gives an update or a status, or just simply revert the update.
