My Fire HD 8 will no longer connect directly to my computer, no matter what USB cable I use to try. I believe that this happened after the most recent Windows update, but I cannot be certain. I cannot see the files that are on my Fire via my computer. Anyone have any advice? I've been searching for a solution for two days now and nothing seems to work!
- It is connected as a media device (MTP).
- When I plug it in, my computer's Device Manager reads "Other devices" --> "MTP" with an exclamation/warning sign next to it. I have tried updating it in a variety of ways, but it always ends up reading: "One of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time."
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Don't be surprised if I say that I already tried your solution-- like I said, I've been searching for a solution to this for ages!
Did you try turning both your Fire and your computer off, then on?
If the problem persists, contact Customer Service and they will troubleshoot with you. To contact Customer Service on your Fire (in landscape view), swipe down from the top, tap Help, scroll down on the right column to Phone & Email, answer the questions, and have Amazon call you. They will call almost immediately.
Thank you so much for your help. I did try turning them both off and on, then contacting Customer Service. Unfortunately, the employee and I came to the conclusion that it is not a problem with the actual Fire, but a problem with my computer. The employee gave me the customer service phone number for Windows, but so far no luck. I wish Windows could be as helpful as Amazon was! :(
