My HDX 8.9 3rd gen and HD 8 6th gen have different collections, somehow. How do I fix it so they both have the same collections?
My default device is the HDX and has the collection categories as I want them. When I try to add a book to a collection on the HD 8 I get a different set of collection categories. If I select cancel and then collections again, I get the same categories I have on the HDX.
I've done multiple 20-, 30-, 40-second reboots on both devices at different times for various issues - including one time on the HD to fix double categories in the Books menu (where the three lines are on the left hand side with Library, Store, Collections,...Storefront, etc categories are listed). The double categories are gone but I still have two different Collections when I try to add a book. There are not two collections listed under the three lines menu.
I have not synced the devices because I'm afraid I'm going to lose the way I've organized apps, etc. I only want the collections to be the same between the devices, not the apps, music, movies, or games.
Do I just need to deal with it & sync? If I sync does my default device win?
syncing just syncs to the account. You need to make sure that you have added all your collections to your "Home/Books tab" on both devices and you'll be good to go.
creating a new Cloud Collection on one Fire adds it to your account and a sync will then let you see it on the other device's All/Cloud (All, not All Items) but it does not automatically download, you have to manually select it and add it.
n the Kindles, you sync devices to the account, set the Home page to look like this:
All (highlighted) | Downloaded ___ Collections ___ Title
and then you long press on any Collection name w/o a checkmark or star beside it u til a menu comes up and then download/add it.
Pineapple, yes. And and they came back which is why I was thinking about syncing.
Btw, neither device has the Cloud Collections option on the show menu on the My Content and Devices page. Those instructions are somewhat confusing as to which models are covered but the way I read them the 3rd gen HDX 8.9 isn't supposed to have them and the HD 6th gen is supposed to.
In order to see your Collections on the Content & Devices page, you need to be in desktop browser mode. Collections won’t show in mobile browser mode. For instance, on my iPad, I switch to desktop browser mode whenever I view C & D.
Both of your Fire devices support cloud collections and syncing.
With respect to the concerns you listed, a sync will sync the Collections so that when you open your books library on either device to look at Collections, you see the same thing. It will sync your last read location on your books (only if you returned to the Home page directly from reading). It will sync Apps accessible to both devices, but won’t change the app layout on either device; it also won’t change the Home page layout on either device.
It will sync the Movies and Music available to both devices through your cloud (account), but won’t affect any downloaded movies or music on either device. It also won’t affect any game progress/data on your devices. If you are playing a Game Circle game on your HDX, it will sync that data to your HD 8 so that you could pick up the game right where you left off. But any other games will not be affected.
In a nutshell, it just makes it easier to access the same content from either device, but each device can still remain customized to settings and downloads.
