sorry I'm not an native english speaker. Sorry if the description therefore is a little inexact and if there are errors in my english.
I have a problem with the restore. The tablet was on automatic backup. 2 days ago I made a factory reset and after the restart it asked for the account and then if I wanted to restore the backup. I choose to restore and since then it's restoring the backup. The progress bar shows a ridiculous amout of minutes every time it runs through like 2343456min and short time later it is at 0sec and resets to the next ridiculous amount of minutes like 2645min and takes again a short time to 0sec. This is still running with different values. For me it looks like there are many backups that are loaded down. But I have a 100MBit line to the internet and even a whole linux-installation with three 4.7GB DVD's would be downloaded in a smidgen of the time.
I want to know if this an error or kind of normal that it is still running ?! If it is an error what can I do to reset the system ? In the actual state there is only access to the restore screen or you see the screensaver (?) (I mean the screen you see after pressing the power button if the screen has gone black)
I had about 10 apps and 800MB of pictures, documents and ebooks on the tablet.
TO REBOOT YOUR KINDLE FIRE: Make sure it has at least a 50% charge. Unplug the Fire. Hold the power button in for a full 30 seconds (count them). For the HDX, use 40 seconds. Disregard any messages to shut it down. If it doesn't turn back on at the end of holding the button, press it once to turn it on. The flickering "kindle fire" screen will appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.
After rebooting, set it up and bypass that backup option. The only thing it restores is the Settings and Silk browser bookmarks. I tried that backup myself, on my HDX, after a factory reset with the same results. It tried to download the backup forever and didn't work. Also, after a factory reset, all of your content is removed from your device and you'll need to download it from your Cloud, resetup your email app, etc.
reboot did not help - after start screen it only jumped directly to the restore and continued. But now 2 hours ago it did finish the restore. Everything is back like before only I have to reload the aps, books etc. because they're now only in the cloud.
I find it awful that all reloaded items are shown as new in the carousel. I wish there where an option to disable that or to kick all items that are new of the carousel
Glad you got it working again. I never use the Carousel because I find it annoying. I just "push" my Home screen up so I only see my favorite apps I use daily. I go to the various tabs - Books, Videos, etc. to access my content. Those "new" notices will probably disappear in a couple of days.
BTW - Your English is excellent. Much better than most of the native speakers I see around here. ;-)
