What is my Echo Dot downloading all the time, and why?
I don't have any 'smart' home items linked to it, and I'm not talking about data used when playing music. Based on my observations (checking individual devices in my router settings), the Echo Dot is downloading over 200MB a day. Today it's downloaded over 600MB and I haven't triggered Alexa once. I get that there may be occasional updates, but it's hard to believe there's a new update every couple days.

I've seen some discussion of a unit getting caught in an update loop, where it downloads and for whatever reason, discards the same update as invalid and starts the process over again. If that were the situation, a full reset might fix it.
Getting to the right person at Amazon customer support (which I doubt would be the first person that answers), they might be able to examine the connection log and determine what is going on and advise of a course of action.
