Just writing to say I've noticed the same thing over the past 24 hours (started another thread before finding this one). I use my Echo Show 5 primarily as a nightstand clock so this behavior makes it largely useless. Clearly something has changed in the software; hopefully Amazon can roll it back or fix it in a timely manner as the device is largely useless to me as well in its current state.
I am having the same issue, but is anyone's Echo Show changing to the 24-Hour Clock? Strange because its set to Off. Can't wait for a new firmware version. I still love this thing, regardless of the minor issues.
it was okay this morning when I woke up, Went out for a few hours and when I came back home, the time was small. I have two Show 5s and use them as clocks by the bed. With the time now so small they are useless.
If you don't need the communications features (calls, messaging, drop in) on the device, a temporary workaround is to set Do Not Disturb mode on. Several people have reported that restores the large clock.
I bought the Echo show 5 to be a kitchen clock and play music occasionally which for the first week did exactly this. However despite having turned off all of the available options in settings relating to notifications it now shows a tiny clock in the top left of the screen and totally pointless "Ask Alexa" statements at the bottom. I have no interest whatsoever in asking Alexa what is the population of Mexico or how to make a chicken curry, all I want is a clock that I can read. Amazon please get off your backsides and fix this issue asap otherwise I shall be returning my Echo show 5 as it is not fit for purpose and buy a £5 clock from Argos that actually shows the time in a readable format.
We’ve reported this to our technical team and hope to update you soon with a resolution to the problem. Thanks for your patience while we look into this. Please follow this thread, we will follow up as soon as information becomes available.
Thanks for helping on fixing this problem. Can you see about fixing the "Try blab, blab, blab" - make it also removal. NO ONE likes this along the bottom of the display, I find it insulting actually (I am NOT a child and do not need prompting).
It would also be a nice idea if these updates were actually tested on units before they are pushed out to the masses..
Again thanks for making Amazon Tech aware of the problem with the clock face
Its not a real fix as DND turns off as soon the echo acts on another command, but when it gets back to the small clock home screen and you command "Alexa do not disturb" you should see the fullscreen clock and a small DND icon bottom right, but repeating the command may be necessary.
The DND can be turned on via device menu, or from the app but the app DND setting is often out of sync.
A few people ( that posted in Reddit) have been told that is display thing was intentional, I can only believe that this is an out right lie by Amazon representatives. NOT a nice example of fixing the problem
Normally if there's a glitch then its fixed quickly, If it was part of the release of Show 8 which they might feel doesn't need a fullscreen clock but instead needs to show us Try Alexa messages, then they can be quite stubborn - but will soon be getting many returns I suspect.
I'm having the same problem, with this one and the one I bought for my Mom. The do not disturb function isn't a good option because I use it to video chat with my Mom. Plus, my Mom is 91 and lives an hour away, so I can't help her with her's. She misses the big clock. I miss mine too.
Also, for no reason, it turned on a light in my house while I was outside in the yard. My Mom called to ask me if I had done that because the command showed up on her screen. Strange.
C'mon Amazon, I have 5 echo devices, and I bought 2 for my Mom.
I'm a prime member with a music account, and now audible. Let's get it together over there.
